Dependence of Palladium Catalysts on the Crystal Plane in the Methanol Oxidation Reaction

GuiXian Li et al.

Summary: To improve catalyst activity, adjusting the crystal surface of the catalyst is an effective approach. In this study, methanol oxidation reaction was examined on palladium (Pd) particles with different lattice planes on multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Pd nanoparticles with palladium acetate (Pd(111)) exhibited superior power densities and stability, indicating a novel method to obtain catalysts with proper activity and stability.

Nanosized Rh grown on single-walled carbon nanohorns for efficient methanol oxidation reaction

Xiang-Jie Guo et al.

Summary: Reasonable design and controllable synthesis of non-Pt catalysts with high methanol oxidation activity are important for large-scale commercial applications of direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). In this study, nanosized Rh grown on single-walled carbon nanohorns (Rh/SWCNH) have been successfully fabricated as anode catalysts for DMFCs. The resulting Rh/SWCNH catalysts exhibit exceptional electrocatalytic properties and hold great potential as alternatives for commercial Pt/carbon black and Pd/carbon black catalysts.

Low-temperature N-anchored ordered Pt3Co intermetallic nanoparticles as electrocatalysts for methanol oxidation reaction

Yanru Li et al.

Summary: By uniformly anchoring small-sized and structurally ordered Pt3Co intermetallic nanoparticles onto nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes via a low-temperature N-anchoring method, the electrocatalytic activity and stability for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) in a direct methanol fuel cell are significantly improved. The introduction of nitrogen doping enhances the catalytic activity of Pt3Co nanoparticles and the binding energy between Pt3Co nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes, leading to enhanced MOR reaction kinetics.
