A probe with hydrazinecarbothioamide and 1,8-naphthalimide groups for turn-on fluorescence detection of Hg2+ and Ag+ ions and live-cell imaging studies

Summary: The probe L, with hydrazinecarbothioamide and 1,8-naphthalimide moieties, has been synthesized and evaluated for its selective and sensitive colorimetric and fluorescent recognition ability towards Hg2+ and Ag+ ions in methanol-HEPES buffer solution. The reversible interaction of L with Hg2+ ion has been monitored using Na(2)EDTA. The potential of probe L in tracking Hg2+ and Ag+ in living cells has been established through fluorescence cell imaging experiments.
