The photocatalytic performance of Fe inserted in Nb2O5 obtained by microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis: Factorial design of experiments

Catia Liane Ucker et al.

Summary: In this study, Nb2O5 inserted with Fe was synthesized using the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. The insertion of Fe promoted the formation of pores and decreased the band gap of Nb2O5. The 1%Fe-Nb2O5 sample showed the best photocatalytic discoloration result. The increase in ion concentration led to a decrease in photocatalytic performance. The factorial design experiment revealed the significant effects of catalyst type, catalyst dosage, pH, and reaction time on the degradation of RhB.

Influence of Nb2O5 crystal structure on photocatalytic efficiency

Catia L. Ucker et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the use of crystalline Nb2O5 powders with different phases as photocatalysts for Rhodamine B degradation, showing that changes in crystalline structure and surface area due to heat treatment temperature can impact the photocatalytic activity. Different phases of Nb2O5 resulted in varying degrees of RhB degradation, with pseudohexagonal Nb2O5 achieving a higher degradation rate compared to orthorhombic Nb2O5. Analysis methods including high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and total organic content analysis were used to identify RhB degradation products and propose potential degradation pathways.

Adsorption behavior of phenanthrene in soil amended with modified loofah sponge

Tianjie Wang et al.

Summary: The research aimed to evaluate the feasibility of adding modified loofah sponge for enhancing the removal of phenanthrene in soil. The modified sponge showed improved adsorption of Phe, increasing carbon content and surface area. While overall adsorption of Phe onto the mixture increased, competitive adsorption with soil decreased the adsorption of Phe. The study demonstrated the potential of using modified loofah sponge as a cost-effective sorbent for remediating PAHs-contaminated soil.
