Glutathione-ascorbic acid-functionalized molybdenum oxide quantum dots-based fluorescent sensor for the detection of isoniazid drug in pharmaceutical samples

Ghinaiya Nirav Vajubhai et al.

Summary: Glutathione-ascorbic acid-functionalized molybdenum oxide quantum dots (GSH-AA-MoOx QDs) were synthesized and used as a fluorescent probe for the rapid detection of isoniazid drug. Ascorbic acid and glutathione were used as surface ligands for the modification of MoOx QDs. The GSH-AA-MoOx QDs displayed lambda Em at 416 nm when lambda Ex was applied at 330 nm. Introduction of isoniazid drug resulted in the assembly of GSH-AA-MoOx QDs-isoniazid nanoarchitectures, leading to quenching of lambda Em at 416 nm. The GSH-AA-MoOx QDs showed promising potential as a fluorescent sensor for the rapid identification of isoniazid in real samples.

Nanoparticle immuno-fluorescent probes as a method for detection of viable E. coli O157:H7

Nasruddeen Al-Awwal et al.

Summary: Development of revolutionary sensitive biosensors for detecting harmful biological species is crucial for preventing disease outbreaks. This study investigated the interaction between fluorescence-labeled antibodies and amine-functionalized gold nanoparticles (GNP) as a model system. Characterization of the interaction was done using UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescent microscopy imaging, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Results showed a shift in wavelength from lower to higher (blue to red shift) when conjugated GNP (anti-E. coli O157:H7; IgY-TRITC-GNP) was compared to free GNP, indicating a quenching capability. The biosensor assay provided near real-time results with a detection range of 10(3)-10(5) CFU/mL.
