Rare-earth free solid-state fluorescent carbon-quantum dots: Multi-color emission and its application as optical dual-mode sensor

Urosa Latief et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized Cu/Mn co-doped carbon quantum dots with strong white light emission and high color rendering index and quantum yield. These dots showed high selectivity and sensitivity in detecting Fe3+ and ascorbic acid, and were successfully applied in real water samples. Furthermore, a logic gate was built based on the unique properties of Cu/Mn:CQDs nanohybrids, indicating new prospects for application in biological sensing.

A novel fluorescent nanoprobe based on potassium permanganate-functionalized Ti3C2 QDs for the unique turn-on dual detection of Cr3+ and Hg2+ ions

Xiangjuan Zheng et al.

Summary: Titanium carbide quantum dots (Ti3C2 QDs) were synthesized using ammonia-assisted hydrothermal method, and potassium permanganate (KMnO4)-functionalized Ti3C2 QDs (Mn-QDs) were obtained by modifying Ti3C2 nanosheets with KMnO4. The luminescent Mn-QDs showed good dispersion stability and were able to specifically detect Cr3+ and Hg2+ ions. The interaction between negatively charged Mn-QDs and Cr3+/Hg2+ was due to electrostatic interactions and surface functional groups. The detection limits for Cr3+ and Hg2+ were 0.80 μM and 0.16 μM, respectively.

Luminescent Manganese/Europium doped ZnS quantum dots: Tunable emission and their application as fluorescent sensor

Urosa Latief et al.

Summary: Manganese and europium doped zinc sulphide quantum dots were prepared via direct aqueous route, showing tunable emission and enhanced photoluminescence. These doped quantum dots also exhibited excellent sensing performance for detecting Cu2+ in water samples. Furthermore, their potential applications in white LEDs were demonstrated through CIE Chromaticity diagram.

Optical properties of Ce3+ and Tb3+ co-doped ZnS quantum dots

N. X. Ca et al.

Summary: Ce3+ and Tb3+ co-doped ZnS quantum dots were synthesized through a simple wet chemical method. The effect of Tb3+ concentration on the structural and optical properties of the co-doped QDs was thoroughly investigated. The energy transfer process was enhanced by the doping with Ce3+ and was dominated by dipole-dipole interaction. The co-doped QDs exhibited long decay times and potential applications in photovoltaic, photocatalysis, and biosensing.

A facile green synthesis of functionalized carbon quantum dots as fluorescent probes for a highly selective and sensitive detection of Fe3+ ions

Urosa Latief et al.

Summary: This study reported an economical, easy, greener, and non-toxic synthesis method of water-soluble carbon quantum dots (CQDs), which exhibit strong blue fluorescence under UV lamp and show a sensitive response to Fe3+ ions. TEM measurements confirmed their spherical morphology and varying sizes in the range of 0.5-5 nm, with a detection limit of 0.2 μM.

Nastaran Arab et al.

Summary: The study successfully prepared CdS@ZnS core-shell quantum dots and applied them to the development of an electrochemical sensor. Under optimized conditions, the sensor demonstrated a linear response to propranolol in the concentration range of 0.06-27 μmol L-1 with a detection limit of 12 nmol L-1.

Polymer-capped CdSe/ZnS quantum dots for the sensitive detection of Cu2+ and Hg2+ and the quenching mechanism

Quanxiu Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride)-capped CdSe/ZnS quantum dots aminolyzed with ethanolamine were proposed as fluorescent probes for the detection of Cu2+ and Hg2+, with different quenching mechanisms discussed. The coordination abilities of the surface polymer of CdSe/ZnS QDs and the two metal ions were calculated using density functional theory. The probes showed high sensitivity to both Cu2+ and Hg2+, with fast response times and the ability to detect the ions within minutes.
