Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Silane Grafting on TiO2 Nanoparticles: Photocatalytic Paint for Atmospheric Cleaning

Jong-Ho Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, anatase titania was modified with Al(OH)(3) and various organosilanes to prepare a durable photocatalytic paint with enhanced photoactivity towards NO oxidation and self-cleaning properties. Through a facile hydrolysis approach in ethanol, multiple organosilanes were coated on the parent titania surface to achieve both hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions for uniform dispersion and strong bonding with the organic matrix. The modified titania exhibited efficient NO removal and UV durability, showcasing the potential of ethanol hydrolysis of organosilanes for designing coatings on anatase titania for durable photoactive paint fabrication.
