Review of recent advancements in fluorescent chemosensor for ion detection via coumarin derivatives

Asim Mansha et al.

Summary: Fluorescent chemosensors are highly valuable in various fields and can detect toxic heavy metal ions, anions and enzymes accurately, online and at a low cost. Coumarins, such as benzopyrone, have many advantages as fluorescent probes, including high fluorescence quantum yield, large Stokes shift, excellent light stability and low toxicity. Coumarin derivatives have shown good selectivity and sensitivity for anions and metal ions, and some systems have demonstrated simultaneous sensitivity towards multiple different metal ions.

Synthesis of novel acylthioureas bearing naphthoquinone moiety as dual sensor for high-performance naked-eye colorimetric and fluorescence detection of CN- and F- ions and its application in water and food samples

Yahya Nural et al.

Summary: In this study, six new acylthiourea sensors containing a naphthoquinone moiety were successfully synthesized and characterized. The synthesized sensors showed absorbance shifts and colorimetric changes in the presence of different anions, with sensor 4e exhibiting unique sensitivity to CN- and F- compared to other competing anions in DMSO. Further spectroscopic studies revealed that the interaction mechanism between 4e and CN- involves nucleophilic addition, while the interaction with F- involves ring-closing due to deprotonation. The sensors also demonstrated selectivity towards CN- in aqueous solutions and Hg2+ selectivity in DMSO.

Lu-Mei Pu et al.

Summary: In this work, an aldehyde-appended salamo-type optical probe AA-TNS was synthesized for efficient detection of cyanide ions. Spectral experiments showed that the probe exhibited proportional fluorescence response to cyanide ions and followed an induced dehydrogenation sensing mechanism. Theoretical calculation revealed the molecular structure transformation as a potential reason for luminescence. The recyclability of the probe and its ability to distinguish cyanide ions in liquid and solid-state environments were also demonstrated.

AIE based colorimetric and fluorescent sensor for the selective detection of CN- in aqueous media

Hui-Xin Liu et al.

Summary: Monitoring trace levels of poisonous anions by naked eyes is still a significant challenge in the surroundings. In this study, a novel AIE active dual-channel sensor (D2) was developed for selectively detecting CN- in aqueous media. The selectivity and sensitivity of sensor D2 for anions sensing were investigated by measuring the photophysical properties. The results showed that D2 displayed preferable sensitivity to CN- ions with a fluorescent response and distinct color variation in the visible light, while also having strong anti-interference towards other common ions in colorimetric and fluorescent response. The detection limit of sensor D2 for CN- was as low as 9.93 x 10(-9) M. The prepared test strips were verified to be a convenient and high-efficient test kit for detecting CN- by naked eyes in samples.
