Role of NADPH Oxidases in Renal Aging

Sung Gi Yoon et al.

Summary: Introduction: The aging process of the kidney is associated with complex changes at the molecular, histological, and functional levels. While aging itself does not cause renal damage, underlying diseases like diabetes can worsen kidney injury during aging. This study investigates the changes in molecular markers in normal and diabetic aging mice, finding that NADPH oxidases play an important role in the aging kidney under both normal and diabetic conditions.

The G protein-coupled oestrogen receptor GPER in health and disease: an update

Eric R. Prossnitz et al.

Summary: Oestrogens and their receptors have a significant impact on physiology and diseases, including the protection against various diseases in women. GPER, as a 7-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor, plays a role in rapid signaling and transcriptional regulation. The research on GPER is important for understanding physiology, diseases, and potential therapeutic targets and prognostic indicators.

Targeting of PFKFB3 with miR-206 but not mir-26b inhibits ovarian cancer cell proliferation and migration involving FAK downregulation

Carlotta Boscaro et al.

Summary: The study reveals that miR-206 and miR-26b can regulate the proliferation and migration of ovarian cancer cells through common glycolytic protein PFKFB3. While overexpression of miR-206 inhibits proliferation and migration by downregulating PFKFB3 levels, overexpression of miR-26b has no functional consequences in EOC cell lines. Additionally, the differential effects of miR-206 and miR-26b on FAK protein levels further support their heterogeneous roles in ovarian cancer progression.

Interplay between ceRNA and Epigenetic Control of microRNA: Modelling Approaches with Application to the Role of Estrogen in Ovarian Cancer

Tzy-Wei Huang et al.

Summary: miRNAs play a crucial role in gene regulation by interacting with targeted mRNAs. However, the competition between miRNA-targeted mRNAs is not enough to cause significant changes in mRNA levels. Transcriptional inhibition of miRNA by its target proteins is required for dramatic changes in miRNA-targeted mRNAs.

MicroRNA-7a2 Contributes to Estrogen Synthesis and Is Modulated by FSH via the JNK Signaling Pathway in Ovarian Granulosa Cells

Liuhui Li et al.

Summary: This study found that miR-7a2 is highly expressed in ovarian granulosa cells and its knockout leads to infertility and abnormal ovarian function. The results indicate that miR-7a2 plays a crucial role in estrogen synthesis by inhibiting the expression of Glg1 and promoting Cyp19a1 expression. Furthermore, follicle-stimulating hormone upregulates miR-7a through the JNK signaling pathway.

Simvastatin modulates estrogen signaling in uterine leiomyoma via regulating receptor palmitoylation, trafficking and degradation

Summary: The study found that simvastatin can significantly reduce E-2-induced proliferation and PCNA expression, as well as decrease total ER-alpha expression in leiomyoma cells. Additionally, simvastatin alters the subcellular localization of ER-alpha by inhibiting its trafficking, and inhibits E-2 downstream signaling, ER/ER activity, and responsive genes.
