Toxic Metals (As, Cd, Ni, Pb) Impact in the Most Common Medicinal Plant (Mentha piperita)

Cristina Dinu et al.

Summary: The study found that Mentha piperita accumulated Cd, Ni, and Pb in different parts of the plant, with the highest concentration in the roots. Initially, there was no significant impact on growth and development, but phytotoxic effects were observed after prolonged exposure. Transfer coefficients and translocation factors were less than 1, indicating the plant immobilized metals in the roots.

Development of an eco-friendly sample preparation protocol for metal determination in food samples: an oxygen pressurized single reaction chamber using diluted nitric acid

Cezar A. Bizzi et al.

Summary: Efforts have been made to improve digestion efficiency by using a digestion system pressurized with O-2, which reduced the amount of acid without impacting efficiency. The system successfully digested various organic matrices with high efficiency, and accurately determined elements using ICP-OES. High accuracy was achieved with minimal reagent usage, in line with green chemistry recommendations.
