Altered levels of salivary cytokines in patients with major depressive disorder

Sumie Yui et al.

Summary: This study found that patients with major depressive disorder had significantly higher levels of several cytokines in their saliva, which is consistent with previous studies showing elevated levels of cytokines in peripheral blood. These findings provide preliminary support for elucidating the pathophysiology underlying major depressive disorder by examining salivary cytokine levels.

Interaction between stress, cytokines, and salivary cortisol in pregnant and non-pregnant women with gingivitis

Fatma Ucan Yarkac et al.

Summary: Pregnant women demonstrated deeper pockets and more severe gingival inflammation after periodontal therapy, with significantly higher levels of IL-6 in GCF and cortisol concentration in saliva compared to non-pregnant women. While non-surgical periodontal therapy may reduce clinical parameters of gingivitis, increased stress during pregnancy may impact individual response.

Salivary Inflammatory Molecules as Biomarkers of Sleep Alterations: A Scoping Review

Vanessa Ibanez-del Valle et al.

Summary: There is a relationship between sleep quality and inflammatory markers in saliva, especially with IL-6 in both healthy subjects and various conditions associated with sleep disorders. Salivary inflammatory markers could be useful in chronobiology studies and as biomarkers for detecting sleep disorders and interventions. Further research is needed to determine the sensitivity of these markers in monitoring biological rhythms and sleep-related interventions.

Salivary cytokine profile in patients with ischemic stroke

Mateusz Maciejczyk et al.

Summary: Inflammatory cytokines play a crucial role in stroke pathogenesis. This study evaluated salivary cytokine profile in ischemic stroke patients for the first time and found higher levels of TNF-alpha and IL-6, and lower levels of IL-10 in their saliva. TNF-alpha in non-stimulated saliva may have greater diagnostic value for evaluating stroke patients.

Oral health and emotional well-being in premenopausal and postmenopausal women: a cross-sectional cohort study

Nil Yakar et al.

Summary: Menopausal women have significantly higher tooth loss compared to premenopausal women, while the prevalence of periodontitis does not show a significant difference between the two groups. The presence of periodontitis is associated with fewer daily brushing sessions in postmenopausal women, and women who report fewer daily toothbrushing sessions have higher depressive mood scores.
