The Biological Use of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Skeletal Muscle Injury and Repair

Jordan Boivin et al.

Summary: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a blood product rich in growth factors and active proteins, which can be used to repair injured tissues and treat pain at the site of injury. The mechanism of PRP in regenerative medicine has been well studied and involves the identification and concentration of released growth factors and exosomes. PRP is widely recommended and used in orthopaedics and sports medicine, including the repair of injured skeletal muscle.

Leukocyte-rich and Leukocyte-poor Platelet-rich Plasma in Rotator Cuff Repair: A Meta-analysis

Yundong Peng et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the effects of leukocyte-rich and leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. The meta-analysis showed that leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma significantly reduced the retear rate and improved clinical results. The efficacy of leukocyte-rich platelet-rich plasma was not significantly improved except for VAS score.

The Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma Leukocyte Concentration on Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Network Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Eoghan T. Hurley et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that leukocyte-poor platelet-rich plasma (LP-PRP) significantly reduces the risk of retear after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and improves patient-reported outcomes. Leukocyte-rich PRP (LR-PRP) does not show significant advantages over LP-PRP, and there is no significant difference between LP-PRP and LR-PRP in any aspect.
