Household size, T regulatory cell development, and early allergic disease: a birth cohort study

Anne-Louise Ponsonby et al.

Summary: Children born to larger households have higher proportions of regulatory T cells (Treg) in the first postnatal year, and higher Treg proportions at birth are associated with reduced risk of allergic diseases at 12 months of age. Prenatal and postnatal environmental factors, such as household size, childcare attendance, and breastfeeding, are associated with Treg development.

Correlation between maternal and neonatal blood Vitamin D level: Study from Pakistan

Shahida Rabbani et al.

Summary: The study revealed a high prevalence of 25(OH)D deficiency in pregnant women and their newborns in Pakistan. There was also a strong positive association between maternal and newborn 25(OH)D levels. Maintaining sufficient 25(OH)D levels during pregnancy was highlighted as important based on the findings.

Summary: This global survey in 18 countries revealed that atopic dermatitis affects a substantial proportion of the pediatric population, with less than 15% having severe cases. Prevalence and severity varied across countries and age groups, with rural areas generally having lower prevalence than urban or suburban areas.

Maternal and Cord Blood 25-Hydroxyvitamin D3 Are Associated with Increased Cord Blood and Naive and Activated Regulatory T Cells: The Barwon Infant Study

Steffen U. Thorsen et al.

Summary: The study found an association between maternal and neonatal vitamin D metabolites and cord blood T-cell subsets, with higher maternal 25(OH)D-3 levels being linked to increased naive T lymphocytes and activated Treg in cord blood, and a positive correlation between neonatal 25(OH)D-3 levels and activated Treg.

Maternal psychiatric status and infant wheezing: The role of maternal hormones and cord blood cytokines

Ozge Yilmaz et al.

Summary: The major risk factors for ever wheezing and recurrent wheezing were identified as maternal smoking, level of education, and family history of asthma. However, maternal depression and anxiety were not determined as risk factors for wheezing. Maternal tetranectin holds potential as a biomarker for wheezing in infants.

Insights into allergic risk factors from birth cohort studies

Lubnaa Hossenbaccus et al.

Summary: Parental history of allergic diseases, exposure to smoking, limited diet diversity, contact with antibiotics, and lifestyle factors may increase the risk of allergies, while household exposures, air pollution, and socioeconomic status may act as risk factors. Understanding the relationship between these factors can help to better understand and prevent the development of allergic diseases.

Summary: The study revealed a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency among pregnant women in Shanghai, with risk factors including age over 30, parity over 2, obesity, and hyperlipemia. Increasing vitamin D levels in pregnancy are significantly associated with a lower risk of gestational diabetes mellitus.

Vitamin D status, proinflammatory cytokines and bone mineral density in Mexican people with multiple sclerosis

Ana Laura Hernandez-Ledesma et al.

Summary: This study evaluated serum vitamin D and cytokine concentrations, as well as bone density, in Mexican individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). The majority of participants exhibited some degree of vitamin D inadequacy, and pro-inflammatory markers were detectable in the participants. However, non-significant correlations were found between vitamin D concentration, bone mineral density, and pro-inflammatory markers. Further research is needed to explore the physiological causes and effects of vitamin D deficiency in individuals with MS.
