Hydrogen trapping and storage in the group IVB-VIB transition metal carbides

Rofiques Salehin et al.

Summary: This work systematically investigates the trapping and storage capabilities of transition metal carbides using density functional theory. It reveals a strong correlation between trap energy and valence electrons in the transition metal, and demonstrates that a lower carbon concentration leads to more hydrogen storage in transition metal carbides.

Non-uniform He bubble formation in W/W2C composite: Experimental and ab-initio study

Andreja Sestan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of helium implantation on the microstructure evolution of tungsten-tungsten carbide composites. It reveals the formation of monomodal helium bubbles in tungsten and larger helium bubbles at the tungsten-carbide interface. Density functional theory calculations suggest that helium migration and accumulation in the composite are influenced by the binding of helium atoms in clusters.
