Regulating the structure of cellulose-based ultrafiltration membrane to improve its performance for water purification

Junkang Lin et al.

Summary: This study developed a simple strategy to fabricate cellulose acetate ultrafiltration membranes by adding methyl acetate (MAC) to N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc), aiming to improve their performance. The results showed that adjusting the DMAc to MAC ratio could regulate the pore morphologies of the membrane. Under optimal conditions, the pure water flux reached 188.0 L/m2h, with a BSA rejection ratio 20% higher than the control. Moreover, the anti-fouling and long-term stability of the ultrafiltration membranes were significantly improved.

Combined molecular dynamics simulations and experimental studies of the removal of cationic dyes on the eco-friendly adsorbent of activated carbon decorated montmorillonite Mt@AC

Hassan Ouachtak et al.

Summary: In recent years, researchers have been paying attention to the combination of experimental and theoretical study in order to understand adsorbate/adsorbent interactions. This study aims to investigate the adsorption behavior of two cationic dyes, methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV), on a green adsorbent composite called Montmorillonite@activated carbon (Mt@AC), using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The results show that the adsorption of both dyes follows the Langmuir adsorption model, with maximum adsorption capacities of 801.7 mg g(-1) for methylene blue and 1110.8 mg g(-1) for crystal violet. Molecular dynamics simulations reveal that crystal violet has a better affinity with both the activated carbon sheet and montmorillonite framework compared to methylene blue.

Integrated Fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS for selecting the best color removal process using carbon-based adsorbent materials: multi-criteria decision making vs. systematic review approaches and modeling of textile wastewater treatment in real conditions

Ali Azari et al.

Summary: In this study, a methodology based on Fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS was proposed to select the best colour treatment process using carbon-based adsorbent materials. The criteria for decision making, including cost, safety, accessibility, reuse, and adsorption capacity, were prioritized based on the experts' opinions. The performance of eight carbon-based adsorbent materials in colour removal was evaluated using the Fuzzy TOPSIS decision matrix. Furthermore, the key factors in the treatment of real textile wastewater using PAC were investigated and optimized. The findings indicate that colour adsorption using PAC is feasible, spontaneous, and endothermic.

Removal of methyl violet by Moroccan clays: kinetics study and equilibrium mechanism

Yassine Bentahar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal of methyl violet by natural clays, with Rhassoul-clay showing the highest adsorption capacity. Different mathematical models and thermodynamic studies were employed to explore the adsorption mechanism and factors affecting it. Thermodynamic studies indicated that the increase in temperature improved the adsorption capacity of basic dye on A-clay and Rhassoul-clay and that adsorption processes were endothermic.

Magnetic NH2-MIL-101(Al)/Chitosan nanocomposite as a novel adsorbent for the removal of azithromycin: modeling and process optimization

Ali Azari et al.

Summary: In this study, a magnetic NH2-MIL-101(Al)/chitosan nanocomposite (MIL/Cs@Fe3O4 NCs) was synthesized and successfully used for the removal of azithromycin (AZT) from aqueous solutions. The synthesized nanocomposite was characterized using various techniques, and the optimization of key factors in the AZT adsorption process was carried out using response surface methodology. The results showed that the optimized conditions led to high removal efficiency and adsorption capacity of AZT. The thermodynamic and kinetic analysis indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic in nature. The reuse of the nanocomposite and its performance under real conditions were also evaluated.

Crystal Violet Adsorption on Eco-Friendly Lignocellulosic Material Obtained from Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca L.) Biomass

Giannin Mosoarca et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of a new eco-friendly adsorbent made from motherwort biomass for the removal of crystal violet dye from aqueous solutions. The adsorbent exhibits high adsorption capacity and is influenced by various factors such as initial dye concentration, contact time, temperature, pH, adsorbent dose, and ionic strength. The adsorption process follows a general order kinetic model and is found to be endothermic, spontaneous, and favorable. pH is identified as the most influential parameter, contributing to 61.64% of the adsorption process. The findings demonstrate that motherwort biomass powder is a cost-effective, readily available, and effective adsorbent for crystal violet dye removal.
