Multifunctional lanthanide MOFs with active sites as new platforms for smart sensing of methylmalonic acid and anti-counterfeiting applications

Xiangmei Lu et al.

Summary: A smartphone-enabled sensing platform was designed for early diagnosis of vitamin B-12 deficiency with involuntary movement disorders. A series of lanthanide metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) were synthesized and 1-Eu exhibited high sensitivity and low detection limit for a potential marker of vitamin B-12 deficiency in urine. Additionally, the prepared fluorescent ink displayed color tunability and good stability, suggesting that 1-Ln could be a new potential anti-counterfeiting material.

2D Cd-MOF and its mixed-matrix membranes for luminescence sensing antibiotics in various aqueous systems and visible fingerprint identifying

Kexin Ma et al.

Summary: The abuse of antibiotics has caused great harm to the human living environment and health. Therefore, it is crucial to develop an efficient and simple method for detecting trace antibiotic residues in various wastewaters. This study introduces a new two-dimensional Cd-based metal-organic framework (Cd-MOF) and its mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) as luminescence sensors for monitoring antibiotic nitrofurazone (NFZ). The Cd-MOF shows good selectivity, sensibility, reproducibility, and anti-interference, with low detection limits in different aqueous systems.

Fabrication of the Antibiotic Sensor by the Multifunctional Stable Adjustable Luminescent Lanthanide Metal-Organic Frameworks

Yan Li et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a widespread issue of irrational use of antibiotics, which needs to be regulated through antibiotic detection. In this study, isomorphic Ln-MOFs were synthesized for the first time using a solvothermal method. By doping with different ratios of Tb3+ and Eu3+, various luminescent 1-EuxTb1-x materials were obtained. These materials showed good chemical stability in water and their luminescence was not affected by different pH values. 1-Eu demonstrated rapid and sensitive detection capabilities for MDZ and TET with good recyclability and low detection limits (10(-5)). In order to increase its practicality, portable sensors and fluorescent test paper were prepared.

Detection Enhancement of One Multifunctional Cd-Metal-Organic Framework toward Tetracycline Antibiotics by Simply Mixing Eu3+ in Suspension

Jiawei Cheng et al.

Summary: A novel three-dimensional Cd-MOF LCU-117 was constructed, which exhibited a unique helical structure and had high selectivity and sensitivity towards Eu3+ ions. LCU-117 could detect antibiotic oxytetracycline (OTC) through the turn-off mechanism, and the detection capability was significantly enhanced when Eu3+ was added. LCU-117 showed promising applications in logic gates, potential fingerprint detection, and mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs), and provided satisfactory results in monitoring OTC in water samples.

Multiaxial Molecular Ferroelectrics with a Large Viable Temperature Range

Liang Tong et al.

Summary: Molecular ferroelectrics have received widespread attention due to their structural diversity, tunability, and ease of handling. However, their application is limited by low transition temperatures. In this study, a highly symmetrical spherical molecule dabco was modified by introducing n-butyl groups and combining modified cations with cobalt halides. The resulting compound exhibited ferroelectricity within a wide temperature range, which is unprecedented among reported molecular ferroelectrics. This work will enrich the field of high-temperature ferroelectrics and inspire more innovative optimization strategies for ferroelectricity.

Stable Metal-Organic Frameworks for Fluorescent Detection of Tetracycline Antibiotics

Lu Liu et al.

Summary: In this work, two stable fluorescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), BUT-178 and BUT-179, are synthesized and used to detect tetracycline antibiotics. BUT-179 exhibits better performance in detecting different tetracycline antibiotics in water and eggs, with detection limits reaching the nanomolar level. Furthermore, BUT-179 can be easily recovered and repeatedly used without an obvious performance loss, as confirmed by cycling tests.
