Fabrication of mulberry leaf extract (MLE)- and tasar pupal oil (TPO)-loaded silk fibroin (SF) hydrogels and their antimicrobial properties

Venkatesh Kumar Ramappa et al.

Summary: Biocomposites with silk fibroin (SF) hydrogel, mulberry leaf extract (MLE), and tasar pupal oil (TPO) as the main components were prepared and characterized. The antimicrobial activities of the composites were evaluated against S. aureus, E. coli, A. flavus, and A. brassicae. The results showed that both TPO-loaded SF hydrogel and MLE-loaded SF hydrogel inhibited the growth of S. aureus and E. coli at all tested concentrations. MLE also displayed antibacterial action against S. aureus at 300 g/ml, while TPO inhibited both S. aureus and E. coli at a dosage of 300 g/ml. Additionally, both MLE and the MLE-loaded SF hydrogel composite exhibited antifungal activity against A. flavus at all tested concentrations.

Multifunctional Biomimetic Nanofibrous Scaffold Loaded with Asiaticoside for Rapid Diabetic Wound Healing

Sneha Anand et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared a multifunctional nanofibrous scaffold loaded with asiaticoside and evaluated its wound healing efficacy in diabetic rats. The nanofibers exhibited good fiber morphology and tensile strength, sustained release of asiaticoside, low cytotoxicity, and excellent antimicrobial activity against common bacteria. In-vivo experiments showed that the nanofibrous scaffold had a better wound healing effect and restored the normal skin structure. These findings suggest that the developed nanofibrous scaffold has great potential for diabetic wound healing applications.

Silk Fibroin/Tannin/ZnO Nanocomposite Hydrogel with Hemostatic Activities

Chul Min Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a modified silk fibroin (SF-BGE) soluble in water was prepared by introducing butyl glycidyl ether (BGE) into its side chain. A coordination bond between ZnO and tannic acid (TA) was formed to develop an SF-based nanocomposite hydrogel. The hydrogel showed superior hemostatic and cytocompatible activities.

Summary: In this study, cationic complexes [(arene)MLC1]PF6 were successfully synthesized by reacting [(arene)MCl2](2) with bidentate 4, 5-diazafluorene-9-one (dafo) and derived Schiff-base ligands. These complexes were characterized and analyzed by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques. X-ray crystallographic studies were conducted on complexes 1-3 to determine their structures. Furthermore, antibacterial and antioxidant experiments were carried out to evaluate the biological activities of these complexes.

Summary: This study successfully fabricated hybrid chitosan/polyethylene oxide/vancomycin nanofibers and found that CH/PEO/VCM 2.5% exhibited better mechanical properties and smaller fiber diameter. All nanofibers showed no significant cytotoxicity to normal cells and effectively inhibited bacterial growth. The wound healing process was promoted by CH/PEO/VCM 2.5%, with faster healing observed compared to other treatment groups.
