Scalable fabrication of benzophenone/phthalocyanine-decorated photodynamic cotton fabrics for enhanced dye degradation and antibacterial performance

Liu Hu et al.

Summary: Cotton fabrics with photodynamic performance were prepared by covalently grafting copper phthalocyanine derivative and benzophenone derivative onto the fabrics. The resulting material showed excellent hydroxyl-radical-generating activity under UVA light and stable degradation efficiency for wastewater treatment. It also exhibited photo-induced antibacterial activity towards Staphylococcus aureus. This photosensitive textile provides a facile and efficient approach for the removal of hazardous pollutants and microorganisms in water treatment.

Synthesis of a novel axially substituted silicon phthalocyanine sensitizer for efficient singlet oxygen generation by comparing PDT and SPDT studies

Gulsah Gumrukcu Kose et al.

Summary: This study is based on photodynamic therapy (PDT) and sonophotodynamic therapy (SPDT) which combines photochemical and sonochemical studies, produces high singlet oxygen and provides more effective therapeutic results in the treatment of cancer. For this purpose, a new photosensitizer, naphthoic acid substituted silicon phthalocyanine, is synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, FT-IR, MALDI-TOF MS and UV-Vis spectral data and its photophysico-chemical properties are investigated. The results show that sonophotochemical study remarkably increased the therapeutic effect, which is important in cancer treatment.
