In silico study on probing atomistic insights into structural stability and tensile properties of Fe-doped hydroxyapatite single crystals

Subhadip Basu et al.

Summary: Hydroxyapatite (HA) is widely studied in the field of biomaterials due to its similarity with natural bone minerals. HA doped with multivalent cations, such as Fe2+, has been extensively investigated. In this study, atomistic models of Fe2+-doped HA with varying Fe content were built, and their uniaxial tensile response was explored using molecular dynamics simulation. The distribution of Fe2+ ions significantly affects the atomic partial charge distribution and chemical symmetry, as observed in the IR spectra. The tensile strength of doped HA decreases with increasing Fe content and temperature.

Synergistically integrated phosphonated poly(pentafluorostyrene) for fuel cells

Vladimir Atanasov et al.

Summary: Phosphonated polymers have been proposed as anhydrous proton conductors for fuel cells, but anhydride formation lowers conductivity. By synergistically integrating phosphonated poly(pentafluorostyrene) and maintaining protonic conductivity above 200 degrees C, advanced fuel cells with peak power densities surpassing traditional materials have been achieved. This study presents a promising pathway for utilizing phosphonated polymers in high-performance fuel cells under hot and dry operating conditions.

High-performance asymmetric Mn(OH)2//Fe2O3 supercapacitor achieved by enhancing and matching respective properties of cathode and anode materials

Jien Li et al.

Summary: The ultra-thin multilayer amorphous Mn(OH)(2) nanosheets and porous Fe2O3 nanoparticles were synthesized for high-performance asymmetric supercapacitors through one-step electrodeposition and hydrothermal processes. The Mn(OH)(2)@AC cathode and Fe2O3@AC anode showed maximum specific capacitance due to their unique structures, achieving high energy density and cycle stability.

Lignin-derived carbon as a high efficient active material for enhancing pseudocapacitance performance of p-type conductive polymer

A. Ehsani et al.

Summary: The research focused on the synthesis of lignin derived carbon (LDC) and its effects on the supercapacitive properties of the POAP/LDC composite. By injecting poly ortho aminophenol (POAP) into the channels of LDC, the volumetric capacitance was significantly increased and a synergistic effect was achieved, leading to a specific capacitance of 485 F/g at 1.0 A/g current density and a retention rate of 86% after 3000 cycles.

Summary: This study presents a novel composite material as a negative electrode material with high capacitance and outstanding stability for energy storage applications. The material exhibited the highest capacitance at a current density of 0.66A g(-1) and exceptional stability after 5000 cycles. The results suggest that this material can be used as a negative electrode material in symmetric supercapacitor devices with ultrahigh energy density.

Efficient antibacterial activity of hydroxyapatite through ROS generation motivated by trace Mn(iii) coupled H vacancies

Ming Wang et al.

Summary: Hydroxyapatite (HA) has been widely studied for medical applications due to its biocompatibility and bioactivity, but infection issues remain a leading cause of implant failure. By introducing trace Mn3+ and H vacancy couples through a simple heat treatment strategy, high antibacterial activity was achieved in HA. The Mn-HA material showed efficient antibacterial activity by promoting ROS production through oxidative and reductive centers, while also exhibiting enhanced osteogenic activity and good biocompatibility.
