Fragmentation modeling of gas-phase ionic liquid clusters in high-voltage electric field

Lipeng Su et al.

Summary: The microfragmentation mechanisms of three kinds of IL clusters subjected to a high-voltage electric field were investigated using numerical simulations and quantum mechanical principles. Coulomb interaction dominates the total inter-fragment energy, while hydrogen-bonding interaction slows down the break-up rate of the [EMIM-BF4] dimer. Van der Waals interaction is a secondary energy component. Only with electric field larger than 1 V/nm, the total inter-fragment energies of all three IL clusters start to dramatically reduce, indicating potential massive break-up.

Molecular Model Construction of Low-Quality Coal and Molecular Simulation of Chemical Bond Energy Combined with Materials Studio

Hongwei Yan et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the construction of molecular models of coal using C-13 NMR tests and molecular simulations. The results show a positive correlation between the degree of coal metamorphism and structural stability, with the optimized model exhibiting strong spatial three-dimensionality and lower total molecular energy. The more branched C-C bonds have longer bond lengths and lower bond energies, leading to the generation of different types of reactive radicals upon breakage of chemical bonds in coal molecules.

Prediction of the Liquid-Liquid Extraction Properties of Imidazolium-Based Ionic Liquids for the Extraction of Aromatics from Aliphatics

Tianhao Yu et al.

Summary: Liquid-liquid extraction is an important technique to separate aromatics from aliphatics, and ionic liquids are considered as potential extractants for this process. Molecular dynamics simulations were used to predict the extraction efficiency of ionic liquids, with results showing that ILs with shorter alkyl chain cations and [Tf2N](-) anion exhibit better extraction efficiency. The study also demonstrates that density functional theory calculations and symmetry-adapted perturbation theory analysis help explain the different extraction behaviors of various ILs.
