Understanding the role of host-guest interactions in enhancing oil recovery through ? cyclodextrin and adamantane modified copolymer

Shideng Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, the cross-linked mode and interaction mechanism of Adamantane (ADA) and fl-Cyclodextrin (B-CD) modified hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (MHPAM) polymers were investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and quantum chemical (QC) calculations. Results showed that ADA and fl-CD molecules played a crucial role in molecular recognition and binding during the host-guest interaction. The findings provide valuable insights for the selection and design of polymers for enhanced oil recovery applications.

Preparation and properties of nano-silica hybrid hydrophobic associated polyacrylamide for polymer flooding

Jiawen Liu et al.

Summary: A nanohybrid polymer (PAAM@SNP) was synthesized and showed excellent viscoelastic, temperature resistance, and shear resistance properties for polymer flooding. It tended to make rocks water wet and improved oil recovery performance, being more advantageous and cost-effective than traditional PAAM in enhanced oil recovery applications.

Synergistic Effects of Weak Alkaline-Surfactant-Polymer and SiO2 Nanoparticles Flooding on Enhanced Heavy Oil Recovery

Wuchao Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method for enhanced oil recovery by combining weak alkaline ASP flooding and nanotechnology. The experimental results demonstrate that the ASP + SiO2 nanoparticles mixture has superior performance in reducing interfacial tension and improving profile control and displacement efficiency compared to the HPAM/ASP-only solution. This new method can enhance oil recovery, reduce chemical agent cost, and avoid formation erosion and alkali deposition.

A comprehensive review of experimental evaluation methods and results of polymer micro/nanogels for enhanced oil recovery and reduced water production

Junchen Liu et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been significant interest in the use of polymer micro/nanogels with 3D networks in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) field. However, the full potential of these gel particles in the oilfield is still unclear due to the lack of understanding in their transport mechanisms and EOR mechanisms. This review aims to discuss the evaluation of micro/nanogel particles, transport issues, and debates surrounding EOR mechanisms based on experimental evaluations and results. The challenges and future research directions for the application of micro/nanogels are also presented in this review.

Phenolic resin gel suitable for medium-temperature and high-salinity reservoirs

Wenhui Wang et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the properties of two phenolic resin gels and found that HPAM gel is prone to premature syneresis at higher crosslinker dosages, while stable gels can be acquired with AM-AMPS gel even at higher polymer dosages. Two syneresis mechanisms of the higher crosslinker gels were proposed based on testing results.

Spreadsheet-based nonlinear analysis of in vitro release properties of a model drug from colloidal carriers

Adam Juhasz et al.

Summary: In this study, a spreadsheet routine was demonstrated to provide a universal and reproducible data analysis strategy for in vitro dissolution profiles of encapsulated drugs without the need for linearization. Different liposome-based drug carrier systems were prepared and characterized, showing that the remote loading encapsulation technique increased the half-life of RhoB from 0.8 h to nearly two hours. The importance of the application way of the chosen kinetic model was highlighted, emphasizing the need to consider the appropriate mathematical model beyond just linear forms.

Analysis and Simulation of Polymer Injectivity Test in a High Temperature High Salinity Carbonate Reservoir

Mohamed Adel Alzaabi et al.

Summary: Polymer flooding as a successful chemical enhanced oil recovery method has attracted much interest in the oil industry, with injectivity of polymer solutions in porous media being a key factor. This study analyzed data from field polymer injectivity tests in a Middle Eastern reservoir under high-temperature high-salinity conditions, finding non-linear pressure response and complex rheological behavior during polymer injection.
