Antiplasmodial Effect of Nano Dendrimer G2 Loaded with Chloroquine in Mice Infected with Plasmodium berghei

Taher Elmi et al.

Summary: In this study, the synthesized N-chloroquine showed suitable size and solubility, with the highest inhibitory effect on Plasmodium parasitic growth observed at a dose of 16 mg/kg which eliminated 95% of the parasites. Biochemical findings revealed that the synthesized N-chloroquine was safer than chloroquine, with no adverse effects observed in examined tissues.

Malaria transmission blocking compounds: a patent review

Sara Consalvi et al.

Summary: Even though more research and a deeper understanding of parasite sexual stages biology are needed, the development of novel strategies to block transmission has significantly accelerated. Among the innovative patented inventions, the surface-delivery of antimalarial drugs to kill transmission-stages parasites in mosquitoes shows the highest promise for success in malaria control strategies, opening up new possibilities in malaria transmission-blocking drug discovery.

Promising Larvicidal Efficacy of Solid Lipid Nanoparticles Containing Mentha longifolia L., Mentha pulegium L., and Zataria multiflora Boiss. Essential Oils Against the Main Malaria Vector, Anopheles stephensi Liston

Alireza Sanei-Dehkordi et al.

Summary: This study attempted to develop a natural mosquito larvicide using nanotechnology. The results showed that solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) containing Mentha longifolia, Mentha pulegium, and Zataria multiflora essential oil had a stronger larvicidal effect compared to their un-formulated essential oils. Among them, SLNs containing Mentha pulegium had the best efficacy.

Current challenges and nanotechnology-based pharmaceutical strategies for the treatment and control of malaria

Lohitha Gujjari et al.

Summary: Malaria, a prevalent tropical disease caused by a parasitic protozoan, poses a serious challenge to global health. The emergence of drug-resistant parasites, inadequate vector control measures, and the lack of effective vaccines contribute to the difficulty in eradicating malaria. Nanotechnology-based strategies offer promise for more effective and safe treatment and control of the disease.

Primaquine Loaded Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN), Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (NLC), and Nanoemulsion (NE): Effect of Lipid Matrix and Surfactant on Drug Entrapment, in vitro Release, and ex vivo Hemolysis

Kai-Wei Wu et al.

Summary: Primaquine is an antimalarial drug that can be delivered using nanoparticle carriers to achieve higher concentrations at the target site, reducing systemic toxicity. Three lipid-based drug carriers loaded with primaquine showed stable release and high entrapment efficiency, with the potential for improved long-term stability after lyophilization. Treatment with these carriers also demonstrated a significant reduction in erythrocyte hemolysis compared to the free drug solution.
