Polymeric ionic liquids and MXene synergistically improve proton conductivity and mechanical properties of polybenzimidazole-based high-temperature proton exchange membranes

Di Yu et al.

Summary: A series of Polymeric ionic liquids (PILs) cross-linked amino polybenzimidazoles with MXene fillers were prepared successfully. The synergistic effect of anion replacement and the hydroxide on the surface of MXene enabled the membrane to have high proton conductivity and low phosphoric acid absorption. The mechanical performance was greatly improved through covalent cross-linking and interaction between oxygen-containing groups and imidazole. The membrane exhibited excellent stability, with no voltage loss after 100 h test.

Effects of nitrogen application level on the physiological characteristics, yield and fruit quality of blackberry

Yuan Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the optimal amount of nitrogen application for blackberry plants and its effects on the physiological characteristics, yield, and fruit quality. The results showed that different amounts of ammonium sulfate applied at different growth stages significantly affected the leaf physiology and fruit characteristics. Leaf chlorophyll content, photosynthesis efficiency, and antioxidant enzyme activity were higher in the treatments with 40 g and 60 g of nitrogen per plant compared to the treatments with 20 g and 80 g of nitrogen per plant. Fruit yield, weight, solids-acids ratio, and anthocyanin content increased initially and then decreased with nitrogen application. Polyphenol and ellagic acid contents decreased with increasing nitrogen application. The study concluded that applying 20 g of ammonium sulfate per plant at key growth stages resulted in improved growth, increased yield and fruit quality, and cost-effective production.

Constructing novel cross-linked polybenzimidazole network for high-performance high-temperature proton exchange membrane

Jinwu Peng et al.

Summary: Compared to linear polybenzimidazole (PBI) membranes, cross-linked phosphoric acid (PA)-PBI membranes offer greater potential for high-temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs) due to their superior mechanical strength. However, the challenge lies in achieving high-performance cross-linked PA-PBI membranes, which is addressed in this study by covalently cross-linking PBI using 2,6-bis(hydroxymethyl)-4-methyl-phenol (BHMP) as a cross-linking agent. The optimized covalently cross-linked network shows high proton conductivity and excellent fuel cell performance, making it a promising candidate for HT-PEMFC applications.

Summary: New medium-temperature proton conductors (MATMP) were synthesized using amino trimethylene phosphonic acid (ATMP) and metal ions (Fe2+, Ce4+, and Zr4+) at different molar ratios. The high phosphonic acid content in ATMP provided MATMP with good ion exchange capacity and proton conductivity. The proton conductivity of FeATMP(1:2) reached 0.124, 0.079, and 0.038 S cm(-1) at 100%, 50%, and 0 RH at 180 degrees C, respectively. MATMP exhibited excellent thermal and oxidative stability, making it promising for fuel cell technology.

Sulfonated Polyphosphazene-Blended Self-Cross-Linked Polybenzimidazole-Based High-Temperature Proton Exchange Membranes: High Efficiency in Proton Transport at Low Humidity

Weihui Cui et al.

Summary: The structure and properties of the self-covalent cross-linked chloromethylated polybenzimidazole (cCM-mPBI) and sulfonated polynaphthoxyphosphazene (SPNPP) composite membranes are studied. The results indicate that the self-covalent cross-linking structure improves the mechanical properties of the composite membranes and facilitates the formation of a greater level of ionic and hydrogen bonds. The high content of sulfonic acid groups, good compatibility with CM-mPBI, more alkaline sites exposed by self-cross-linking, exemption of nonconductive cross-linking agents, and a more compact hydrogen bond network synergistically contribute to the good proton conductivity of the composite membrane.
