Yufan Hao et al.

Summary: In this study, a complex-dissociation regulated interfacial polymerization (CDRIP) strategy was proposed to prepare highly permeable polyamide-based (PA-based) nanofiltration (NF) membranes. By forming and dissociating complex on the membrane surface, the surface properties were adjusted and the mass transfer resistance was reduced, resulting in improved permeability of the NF membranes.

Tengfei Pei et al.

Summary: In this study, loose nanofiltration membranes based on the interfacial polymerization reaction between glutaraldehyde and amine were developed for dye/salt separation. The resulting membranes showed excellent permeance, hydrophilicity, and dye/salt selectivity. The addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate helped regulate monomer diffusion behavior and improve membrane performance. The membranes also exhibited good anti-fouling properties, making them suitable for dye recycling and purification.

The role of carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals placement in the performance of thin-film composite (TFC) membrane

Yatao Liu et al.

Summary: Nanomaterials, specifically carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals, were incorporated into thin-film composite membranes to enhance membrane performance. Placement of these nanomaterials in the active layer increased permeate flux, while placement in the support layer improved salt rejection. Different incorporation positions of the nanomaterials resulted in different mechanisms for salt rejection in the membranes.

Facile preparation of polyvinylidene fluoride substrate supported thin film composite polyamide nanofiltration: Effect of substrate pore size

Junhui Wu et al.

Summary: PVDF is rarely used as a substrate membrane for thin film composite polyamide nanofiltration membrane due to its hydrophobic surface pushing water away during interfacial polymerization. In this study, it was found that the pore size of the PVDF substrate greatly influences the morphologies and surface properties of the TFC PA NF membrane. The TFC membrane prepared with a PVDF substrate of 100 nm exhibited a 27.0 L m-2 h-1 bar-1 pure water permeance, and a 96.2% Na2SO4 rejection, demonstrating a facile and effective method for preparation of PVDF substrate supported PA NF membrane.
