Predator invasion in predator-prey model with prey-taxis in spatially heterogeneous environment

Wonhyung Choi et al.

Summary: We analyze the effects of prey-taxis and environmental heterogeneity on predator invasion in a predator-prey model. The results show that prey-taxis and the diffusion of prey-taxis model have an impact on predator invasion in a certain range of predator death rates. In addition, prey-taxis can substitute for predator diffusion in causing predator invasion in a spatially heterogeneous habitat. Moreover, the predator's diffusion and prey-taxis do not affect predator invasion in the model with ratio-dependent functional responses, only the predator's death rate contributes to it.

On the Fitness of Predators with Prey-Induced Dispersal in a Habitat with Spatial Heterogeneity

Youngseok Chang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of a predator's movement decisions on its fitness in a predator-prey interaction, where the predator can adjust its dispersal rate based on its satisfaction with foraging prey. The results show that nonuniform dispersal following prey-induced dispersal (PYID) generally promotes predator fitness, except for cases where the predator's satisfaction with prey density is very high. These findings have implications for understanding the dynamics and coexistence of predator-prey systems in spatially heterogeneous regions.
