Insufficient antenatal identification of fetal growth restriction leading to intrauterine fetal death: a regional population-based study in Japan

Shinsuke Tokoro et al.

Summary: This retrospective study reviewed all stillbirths in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, from 2007 to 2016 and found that only 39% of cases with fetal growth restriction (FGR) were identified antenatally. The antenatal identification of FGR was associated with the severity of growth restriction.

SIRT1 regulates trophoblast senescence in premature placental aging in preeclampsia

YuJia Wang et al.

Summary: The downregulation of SIRT1 and the upregulation of senescence- and ECM-related proteins are observed in premature aging placenta with preeclampsia. Activation of SIRT1 can abolish senescence in syncytialized BeWo cells, while knockdown of SIRT1 restores these effects.

Advanced Maternal Age-associated SIRT1 Deficiency Compromises Trophoblast Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition through an Increase in Vimentin Acetylation

Liling Xiong et al.

Summary: SIRT1 is downregulated in AMA placentas, affecting cell function and migration, leading to premature senescence. SIRT1 promotes trophoblast epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by modulating vimentin acetylation.

Elucidation of SIRT-1/PGC-1α-associated mitochondrial dysfunction and autophagy in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Yan Jiang et al.

Summary: In the study, it was found that in a mouse model of NAFLD, high-fat diet led to various metabolic changes and impaired SIRT-1 expression and mitochondrial function. In an in vitro cell model, disturbances in SIRT-1 expression affected mitochondrial physiology and lipid autophagy, which could be reversed by SIRT-1 activation. The SIRT-1/PGC-1 alpha pathway may be a potential target for developing new therapeutic strategies for NAFLD.
