The effect of SrO and La2O3 addition on the crystallization characteristics and sintering behavior of distinct polyphosphate glasses

Vladimir Topalovic et al.

Summary: The effect of SrO and La2O3 addition on the crystallization and sintering behavior of polyphosphate glasses was investigated. The addition of SrO and La2O3 increased the characteristic temperature and resistance to crystallization of the glasses. The maximal shrinkage temperature also increased with the addition of SrO and La2O3. Surface crystallization was the dominant mechanism in all samples, leading to the formation of multiple crystalline phases. Sintered phosphate glass-ceramic containing bioactive phases was successfully prepared.

Multicolor green to orange-red emission of Tb3+ and Eu3+-codoped tellurite glasses: Eu3+ concentration and Tb3+ → Eu3+ energy transfer

M. E. Alvarez-Ramos et al.

Summary: A series of TeO2-GeO2-ZnO glasses doped with Tb3+ and Eu3+ in different ratios were investigated for their luminescent and colorimetric properties in lighting devices. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the glassy nature of the fabricated samples. The doping effects were analyzed through fluorescence and time-resolved spectroscopy. Energy transfer between Tb3+ and Eu3+ ions was observed, with Tb3+ -> Eu3+ being the main interaction type, and the CIE1931 chromaticity coordinates showed multicolor tuning from green to orange-red.

Electrical Conductivity and Dielectric Relaxation in Ag1-xLixNbO3

Jan Macutkevic et al.

Summary: The broadband electrical properties of Ag1-xLixNbO3 (ALNx) ceramics and AgNbO3 (AN) crystals were investigated in a wide temperature range. It was found that ALNx exhibits a diffuse ferroelectric phase transition at low temperatures, and the position of the dielectric permittivity maximum is frequency-dependent and follows the Vogel-Fulcher law. The freezing temperature decreases with increasing lithium concentration. ALN3 and ALN5 ceramics show characteristics of dipolar glasses at low temperatures. At higher temperatures, conductivity effects become important, with the DC conductivity increasing according to the Arrhenius law and the activation energy being highest in the antiferroelectric phase, strongly dependent on the lithium concentration with the maximum value occurring at x = 0.02.

Tb3+/Eu3+ co-doped Al2O3-B2O3-SrO glass ceramics: Preparation, structure and luminescence properties

Wuyunga Bao et al.

Summary: Al2O3-B2O3-SrO glass ceramics doped with Tb3+ and Eu3+ were successfully synthesized by the melt crystallization method, and optimal heat treatment conditions were determined using DSC, XRD, and SEM. Luminescence spectra showed emission peaks attributed to Tb3+ at 489 nm and 544 nm, and to Eu3+ at 590 nm and 614 nm under 377 nm excitation. Borate glass ceramics doped with Tb3+/Eu3+ exhibit a blue to orange glow, with the 1.2%Tb3+-1.2%Eu3+ combination producing light closest to perfect white according to CIE1931 coordinates, making them suitable for LED and display devices.

The effect of SiO2 on the thermal stability and thermoluminescence properties of barium-cerium borate glass and glass-ceramics

Szymon Swiontek et al.

Summary: This paper reports on the BaO-B2O3-SiO2 glass and glass-ceramics doped with cerium oxide. The study investigated the impact of SiO2 content on the efficiency of the thermoluminescence process. The gradual introduction of SiO2 into the borate glass was found to lower the efficiency of luminescence processes while enhancing thermal stability and reducing Delta H of crystallization. The glass-ceramics produced had comparable thermoluminescence efficiency with commercial crystalline materials and promising potential for thermoluminescent detectors as an active material.

Crystallization behavior of transparent Na2O-Al2O3-SiO2 glass-ceramic containing rare-earth oxides

Summary: The impact of adding Eu2O3 and Nd2O3 on the crystallization behavior of NAS glasses was discussed, revealing that the addition of rare-earth oxides resulted in decreased crystallization activation energy and increased Avrami parameter n, indicating a tendency towards bulk crystallization and two dimensional crystal growth. As the heating temperature increased from 650 to 780 degrees Celsius, ZrO2, low-carnegieite, and nepheline crystals successively precipitated in NAS glasses, with Nd2O3 showing more effectiveness in promoting crystallization and forming ultra-fine microstructure compared to Eu2O3.

Summary: By optimizing the introducing method of Tb3+ doping, single-phase 2Gd2O3·(Gd,Tb)2(SO4)3·nH2O precursor with strong crystallinity was successfully synthesized. Pure Gd2O2S:Tb nanopowders with layered structure were obtained, and high relative density Gd2O2S:Tb scintillation ceramics were fabricated with vacuum pre-sintering and HIP post-treatment. The luminescence properties of the ceramics were improved with homogeneous doping, and temperature-dependent XEL measurements showed dominant green emission attributed to cross-relaxation between Tb3+ levels.
