Fluorometric Sensing and Detection of p-Nitroaniline by Mixed Metal (Zn, Ni) Tungstate Nanocomposite

Fahad A. Alharthi et al.

Summary: In this study, a Ni-doped ZnWO4 mixed metal tungstate nanocomposite material was synthesized by the hydrothermal method and used as a sensor for the fluorometric determination of p-nitroaniline (p-NA). The results showed that ZnNiWO4 exhibited higher sensitivity towards p-NA, with a concentration range of 25-1000 μM and a detection limit of 1.93 x 10(-8) M. The detection limits for ZnWO4 and NiWO4 were 2.17 x 10(-8) M and 2.98 x 10(-8) M, respectively.

Oxygen-Defect-Mediated ZnCr2O4/ZnIn2S4 Z-Scheme Heterojunction as Photocatalyst for Hydrogen Production and Wastewater Remediation

Renzhi Xiong et al.

Summary: Photocatalysis is a promising technology in green energy and environmental remediation. The construction of heterostructures is important to improve the photocatalytic activity. In this work, ZnCr2O4/ZnIn2S4 composites with an oxygen-vacancy-induced Z-scheme heterojunction are successfully prepared, which offers tight interfacial contact and promotes rapid charge transfer. The composite shows significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity compared to pure ZnIn2S4 and ZnCr2O4 in hydrogen production, hexavalent chromium reduction, and methyl orange degradation.

Efficiency of chitosan nanoparticle with polyaluminum chloride in dye removal from aqueous solutions: Optimization through response surface methodology (RSM) and central composite design (CCD)

Hamid Karyab et al.

Summary: Due to the residual aluminum left in wastewater treated with polyaluminum chloride (PAC), it is necessary to reduce the consumption of conventional chemical coagulants by using environmentally friendly natural coagulants. In this study, chitosan (CS) nanoparticles prepared through ion gelation were used to remove anionic dyes from aqueous solutions. The optimal conditions for maximum color removal were determined by studying the effects of pH, initial dye concentration, CS nanoparticles, and PAC dosages through response surface methodology (RSM). The results showed that the usage of CS nanoparticles and PAC effectively increased the efficiency of color removal, with a maximum color removal efficiency of 92% achieved at pH 6.6 using 80 mg/L of PAC and 150 mL/L of CS nanoparticles. The CS nanoparticles exhibited potential as a coagulant aid, reducing the required PAC dosage and enhancing color removal efficiency.

A step toward correct interpretation of XPS results in metal oxides: A case study aided by first-principles method in ZnO

Jin Li et al.

Summary: Metal oxide semiconductors are greatly influenced by native defects, making the interpretation of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results challenging. In this study, a first-principles analysis was conducted on the core-level shift of various crystal imperfections in ZnO. The results suggest that the commonly adopted assignment of XPS defect peaks to the most stable defect (Vo) in ZnO is likely a misinterpretation, and instead, the defect-related peak arises from O-i or specific surface configurations. The misinterpretation of XPS results may lead to erroneous conclusions about material properties.

Effect of Additives on the Surface Morphology, Energetics, and Contact Resistance of PEDOT:PSS

Alexander X. Chen et al.

Summary: For a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS) film used in device stack, charge transport is influenced by both bulk and contact resistances. However, for ultrathin films, interfacial properties can dominate, making contact resistance a significant determinant of device performance. This study investigates the effects of additives on both the bulk and contact resistances of PEDOT:PSS films through various characterization techniques.

Anchoring Polydopamine on ZnCo2O4 Nanowire To Facilitate Urea Water Electrolysis

Gita B. Bhanuse et al.

Summary: To overcome the sluggishness of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), the urea oxidation reaction (UOR) was developed. ZnCo2O4 was found to be an excellent electrocatalyst for OER, while polydopamine (PDA) was used for UOR. ZnCo2O4@PDA was synthesized on the surface of nickel foam through a hydrothermal method, and its electrochemical activity was enhanced by optimal growth of PDA. The resulting ZnCo2O4@PDA electrode exhibited excellent UOR activity, with low overpotential and high electrochemical performance.

Band Structure Engineering of Polyimide Photocatalyst for Efficient and Selective Oxidation of Biomass-Derived 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural

Sheng Chu et al.

Summary: Efficient and selective photooxidation of biomass-based 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2, 5-diformylfuran (DFF) was achieved using a metal-free polyimide (PI). The PI demonstrated high DFF selectivity of 91% and high apparent quantum efficiency of 1.13%, outperforming graphitic carbon nitride. The band structure and photooxidation capability of the PI could be modulated by changing the molar ratio of amine and anhydride, as confirmed by experimental measurements and theoretical calculations. Holes and superoxide radicals were identified as crucial factors in the photooxidation process.

Enhanced photocatalytic activity of Cu and Ni-doped ZnO nanostructures: A comparative study of methyl orange dye degradation in aqueous solution

Md. Rashid Al-Mamun et al.

Summary: This study examined the photocatalytic performance of metal (Cu and Ni) doped ZnO nanocomposites in the degradation of methyl orange dye. The results showed that Ni doping can decrease the bandgap energy of ZnO lattice, and the Ni/ZnO nanocomposite exhibited excellent reusability and a high reaction rate constant. Therefore, this nanocomposite could be used for the treatment of organic dyes in textile wastewater.
