Bone Microenvironment-Mimetic Scaffolds with Hierarchical Microstructure for Enhanced Vascularization and Bone Regeneration

Yujie Ha et al.

Summary: This study develops a bone microenvironment-mimicking scaffold with microchannel networks and nanofibrous structures using 3D printing and thermally induced phase separation techniques. The scaffold promotes cells migration and nutrient transportation. Cell experiments show that the scaffold promotes angiogenesis and osteogenesis, and enhances the angiogenic activity of osteoblasts through the activation of specific pathways.

Evaluation on the corrosion resistance, antibacterial property and osteogenic activity of biodegradable Mg-Ca and Mg-Ca-Zn-Ag alloys

Hewei Chen et al.

Summary: Alloying treatment is an effective method to regulate the degradation rate of magnesium-based materials. In this study, three magnesium alloys were fabricated and evaluated for their corrosion resistance and degradation rate. The addition of zinc and silver enhanced the antibacterial potential of the magnesium alloys. In vitro cell experiments demonstrated the good biocompatibility of these alloys.

Co-inspired hydroxyapatite-based scaffolds for vascularized bone regeneration

Chun Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, hydroxyapatite-based coil scaffolds inspired by nacre and cortical bone were successfully prepared, showing good compressive strength, flexural strength, and toughness. These scaffolds demonstrated improved angiogenesis and osteogenesis in critical sized bone defect models in rats and rabbits, offering a feasible strategy for vascularized bone regeneration by mimicking co-biological systems.
