Kinetics of the hydrogen absorption and desorption processes of hydrogen storage alloys: A review

Qian Li et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes the kinetic models based on different kinetic measurement methods and rate-controlling steps for studying the kinetic mechanism of hydrogen storage alloys. The analysis procedures of kinetic experimental data and the effects of temperature, hydrogen pressure, and particle radius are explained in detail. The applications of the kinetic models for different hydrogen storage alloys are also introduced.

Understanding grain refining and anti Si-poisoning effect in Al-10Si/Al-5Nb-B system

Yang Li et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the grain refining mechanism and anti Si-poisoning effect in the Al-10Si/Al-5Nb-B system. It was found that NbB2 provides the main nucleation site in Al-10Si, while NbAl3-like compound covers the surface of NbB2, enhancing the nucleation potency of NbB2 particles.

Island formation and the heterogeneous nucleation of aluminum

Mark R. O'Masta et al.

Summary: The liquid phase epitaxy of aluminum on substrates with varying lattice spacing was investigated through molecular dynamic simulations. The study revealed the formation of small islands following a Stranski-Krastanov mode, where a few unit cell thick solid layer first templates to the substrate. Subsequent island formation reduces strain energy within the nucleating solid, with growing islands coalescing upon impinging and misfit dislocations forming at the substrate interface.

Thermodynamics and kinetics of hydriding and dehydriding reactions in Mg-based hydrogen storage materials

Qian Li et al.

Summary: Magnesium-based materials show promise as hydrogen storage candidates due to their high capacity, environmental friendliness, and high Clarke number characteristics. However, limited thermodynamic and kinetic properties have posed challenges for their engineering applications. Recent progress has focused on improving these properties through alloying, composite materials, and nanocrystallization, leading to enhanced hydrogen storage efficiency.

Phase-field modeling of grain evolutions in additive manufacturing from nucleation, growth, to coarsening

Min Yang et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional phase-field model was developed to simulate grain evolutions during powder-bed-fusion additive manufacturing, incorporating a physically-informed temperature profile. Validation experiments showed consistent simulation results with experimental data, including the preliminary verification of grain refinement by adding nanoparticles.
