Microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of TiAl/GH536 joints vacuum brazed with Ti-Zr-Cu-Ni filler metal

Chen-yang Jiang et al.

Summary: A novel Ti-Zr-Cu-Ni amorphous filler metal was successfully fabricated and applied to vacuum brazing of TiAl alloy and Ni-based superalloy. The interfacial microstructure and mechanical properties of the brazed joints were analyzed. The results showed that brazing temperature had significant effects on element diffusion, microstructure evolution, and metallurgical quality of the joints. The thickness of certain layers in the joints was not affected by brazing temperature. The obtained joints exhibited excellent shear strength at room temperature and elevated temperature.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of TiAl/Ni-based superalloy joints vacuum brazed with Ti-Zr-Fe-Cu-Ni-Co-Mo filler metal

Summary: A novel Ti-Zr-Fe-Cu-Ni-Co-Mo filler metal was used to join TiAl to GH536, and the effects of brazing temperature on interfacial microstructure and chemical composition were analyzed. The shear strength and brazing seam thickness initially increased and then decreased with increasing brazing temperature, with joint performance being controlled by brazing seam thickness and formation of intermetallic compounds.

Vacuum brazing TiAl intermetallics to GH3030 alloy with a multi-component Ti-based filler metal

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: TiAl intermetallics were vacuum-brazed to GH3030 alloy using a multi-component Ti-based amorphous filler metal. The microstructure and shear strength of the brazed joint were studied at different brazing temperatures. Increasing the brazing temperature accelerated the diffusion between the filler metal and base metals, leading to thicker transition zones and a blocky primary phase Ti(Al, Cu, Ni)(3) in the middle brazed seam. The maximum shear strength was obtained at 990 degrees C, with cracks propagating along the interface of the transition zone/middle brazed seam during the shear test.
