Template-Induced Growth of Sputter-Deposited Gold Nanoparticles on Ordered Porous TiO2 Thin Films for Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Sensors

Suzhe Liang et al.

Summary: Ordered porous gold/titanium dioxide (Au/TiO2) hybrid nanostructured films were investigated for their optical response and application as molecular sensors. The study found that the Raman intensity is influenced by the thickness of deposited Au and a maximum intensity is observed at an effective Au thickness of 3.4 nm. The growth kinetics of Au on a TiO2 template during sputter deposition were analyzed using in situ grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS), providing insights for tailoring the Au/TiO2 nanohybrid thin films for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) applications.

Photocrosslinking and photopatterning of magneto-optical nanocomposite sol-gel thin film under deep-UV irradiation

C. Bidaud et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the process of photocrosslinking under Deep-UV irradiation of nanocomposite thin films doped with cobalt ferrite magnetic nanoparticles. Despite the presence of high concentrations of MNPs, the study shows an efficient photopolymerization pathway. The impact of nanoparticles on photopolymerization kinetics and photopatterning is examined, demonstrating the potential for manufacturing miniaturized magneto-optical devices for photonic applications.

Flexible and Ultrathin Metal-Oxide Films for Multiresonance-Based Sensors in Plastic Optical Fibers

N. Cennamo et al.

Summary: By utilizing a laser-based integration process of ultrathin metal-oxide films, we have enhanced the plasmonic effect in sensors based on plastic optical fibers. The use of MO films as intermediate layers improved sensor performance, particularly in terms of SPR sensitivity, and also led to the observation of an LMR phenomenon. The incorporation of both SPR and LMR resonances opens up opportunities for various application fields, such as biochemical sensing.
