Enhancement and investigation of biodegradability of poly (methyl methacrylate) and poly (vinyl chloride) by blending with biodegradable polymer

Yethadka Narahari Sudhakar et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the biodegradation of polymer blends composed of synthetic polymers and biopolymers. Four different methods are used to study the degradation performance, and the results show that the addition of biodegradable cellulose acetate butyrate effectively promotes the degradation of synthetic polymers without significant compromise on their properties.

Insights of 3D bioprinting and focusing the paradigm shift towards 4D printing for biomedical applications

Kirti Agarwal et al.

Summary: Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is a versatile technique for biomedical applications, including organ printing, 3D disease model development, and drug delivery. With bioprintable materials combined with live cells, various 3D structures can be fabricated using a 3D bioprinter. The use of smart and responsive materials enables the development of 3D structures that can change their shape, similar to self-assembly, leading to the term four-dimensional (4D) printing. This article reviews bioprintable materials, 3D printers, applications in biomedicine, smart materials, and stimulations for 4D printing, as well as regulatory issues and limitations. Advancements in 3D and 4D printing have greatly contributed to the medical field, and further research and integration of engineering and science will strengthen the application of this technology and provide solutions for existing problems.

Micro-diamond assisted bidirectional tuning of thermal conductivity in multifunctional graphene nanoplatelets/nanofibrillated cellulose films

Yinhang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a strategy to construct thermal interface materials (TIMs) with bidirectional high thermal conductivity by incorporating micron-diamonds (MDs) in graphene nanoplatelets/nanofibrillated cellulose (GNPs/NFC) composite film. The loading and particle size of MDs can be adjusted to achieve high thermal conductivity in both in-plane and through-plane directions.

High-strength and super-hydrophobic multilayered paper based on nano-silica coating and micro-fibrillated cellulose

Haoying Chen et al.

Summary: A simple method was proposed to prepare high-strength and super-hydrophobic packaging paper with improved moisture and air barrier properties. Micro-fibrillated cellulose and nano-silica were assembled onto two surfaces of the cellulose paper base, resulting in enhanced mechanical performance and superhydrophobicity of the composite papers.

Preparation of sulfur-doped graphenes by Yucel's method and their corresponding polylactide-based nanocomposites

Yusuf Kahraman et al.

Summary: In this study, S-doped graphene (SG) powders were prepared using a green, quick, and cheap method. The powders were used to prepare SG/polylactide (PLA) nanocomposites. The addition of low amounts of SG significantly improved the tensile strength and modulus of the nanocomposites. The applied potential and the structural properties of SGs had different effects on the final tensile properties of the nanocomposites.

3D printing nanocomposite hydrogels with lattice vascular networks using stereolithography

Livia M. Kalossaka et al.

Summary: Hydrogels are important materials for mimicking the structure and function of tissues in vivo, but there are still limited fabrication techniques for controlling porosity and vascular networks. In this study, stereolithography was used to create 3D vascular networks, with the ability to customize the structural and functional properties of the fabricated scaffold by selecting appropriate chemicals and fillers.

TEMPO-Oxidized Cellulose Nanofibers: A Renewable Nanomaterial for Environmental and Energy Applications

Shasha Liu et al.

Summary: TOCNFs, derived from TEMPO-mediated oxidized cellulose nanofibers, possess uniform and ultrafine diameters, high aspect ratios, and are functionalized with carboxyl groups. Their fabrication process is more environmentally friendly and they have been extensively studied in fields such as environmental remediation, energy, and smart materials. TOCNFs' advantages include low environmental impact, high aspect ratio, high strength, ability to be functionalized, and renewability.
