The Role of Citizen Science in Promoting Health Equity

Lisa G. Rosas et al.

Summary: Citizen science refers to the participation of the general public in the scientific process, collaborating with professional scientists, and can be used to promote health equity. Citizen scientists, from communities experiencing health inequities, collect data using various strategies and technologies. To advance the field of citizen science in addressing health equity, it is recommended to focus on important topics, increase diversity, integrate citizen scientists in additional research phases, leverage emerging technologies, and strengthen evaluation methods.

The case for using mixed methods for designing, implementing, and disseminating evidence-based interventions for public health practice

Meredith Y. Smith et al.

Summary: There is a significant gap between public health research findings and their application in practice. Implementation research, particularly using mixed methods, is crucial for improving the adaptation and dissemination of public health interventions. Increased collaboration between qualitative and quantitative research teams is necessary to enhance the design and evaluation of public health interventions.

Breaking Down and Building Up: Gentrification, Its drivers, and Urban Health Inequality

Helen V. S. Cole et al.

Summary: Many neighborhoods impacted by historical uneven urban development are now facing the risk of gentrification, which may lead to the displacement of underprivileged residents. Recent studies suggest that gentrification can have differential effects on the health of privileged and underprivileged residents, with the former benefitting more. Researchers are beginning to explore the specific pathways through which different drivers of gentrification can impact health equity.
