Fibrosis imaging with multiparametric proton and sodium MRI in pig injury models

Camilla W. Rasmussen et al.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease has significant implications for health and mortality, and there is a need for a noninvasive method to assess kidney fibrosis. This study explores the potential of a multiparametric MRI protocol, including sodium imaging, in assessing fibrosis. The results suggest that sodium imaging can partially predict fibrosis but its application in kidney disease remains uncertain.

Clinically feasible B1 field correction for multi-organ sodium imaging at 3 T

Michael Vaeggemose et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the Bloch-Siegert off-resonance (BLOSI) B-1 field correction for sodium MRI and propose a clinically feasible B-1 field map correction method. The results indicate that B-1 field correction improves organ structural integrity and total sodium concentration in sodium imaging in a clinically feasible protocol.

Functional Sodium MRI Helps to Measure Corticomedullary Sodium Content in Normal and Diseased Human Kidneys

Alireza Akbari et al.

Summary: This study investigated the ability of sodium MRI to measure corticomedullary gradient (CMG) dynamics and compared it with urinary osmolarity. The results showed that functional sodium MRI accurately depicted CMG changes and demonstrated the feasibility of CMG measurement in both healthy volunteers and participants with reduced kidney function.

Future of kidney imaging: Functional magnetic resonance imaging and kidney disease progression

Sidar Copur et al.

Summary: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common cause of death with an increasing trend, and there is currently no established approach for predicting CKD progression. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) methods can assess kidney functions and predict the progression of CKD.

Multiparametric Renal MRI: An Intrasubject Test-Retest Repeatability Study

Anneloes de Boer et al.

Summary: The study assessed the intrasubject test-retest repeatability of renal MRI measurements in 19 healthy subjects, with most MRI measures showing good repeatability below 13%, except for perfusion fraction and perfusion as measured by DCE, which were above 13%.

High-resolution sodium imaging using anatomical and sparsity constraints for denoising and recovery of novel features

Yibo Zhao et al.

Summary: A novel method has been developed to reconstruct high-quality sodium MR images from limited k-space data, achieving substantial improvements in spatial resolution and SNR. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of obtaining tissue sodium concentration maps, showing enhanced lesion fidelity and accurate interrogation of small targets with the potential for improved detection of spatially heterogeneous responses of tumors to treatment.

Combined 23Na and 13C imaging at 3.0 Tesla using a single-tuned large FOV birdcage coil

Joshua D. Kaggie et al.

Summary: The study introduced a quadrature-driven Na-23 birdcage coil for abdominal imaging, which showed improved FOV and B-1(+) uniformity compared to the clamshell coil design. The combination of an 8-channel C-13 receive array with the Na-23 birdcage coil resulted in a significant increase in SNR for Na-23 imaging in the central abdomen.
