Perfusion-Diffusion Ratio: A New IVIM Approach in Differentiating Solid Benign and Malignant Primary Lesions of the Liver

Joanna Podgorska et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new concept, the perfusion-diffusion ratio (PDR), for the differentiation of solid primary liver lesions. The results show that PDR is more effective than IVIM parameters and ADC in this regard.

Intravoxel incoherent motion diffusion-weighted MRI for the characterization of inflammation in chronic liver disease

Thierry Lefebvre et al.

Summary: The study found that IVIM parameters f strongly correlated, D weakly correlated, and D* moderately correlated with inflammation. The perfusion fraction f accurately graded inflammation and showed promise as a biomarker of hepatic inflammation.

Summary: This study found that there was no significant difference in diagnostic performance between 2D and 3D ROIs when using simplified IVIM-DWI for liver lesion differentiation. However, the AUC values significantly increased when centrally deviating areas were excluded from the analysis.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Elizabeth E. Powell et al.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common global health issue with significant associations with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, leading to serious complications like cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. While cardiovascular disease and extrahepatic malignancy are the main causes of death in NAFLD patients, advanced liver fibrosis is a key prognostic marker for liver-related outcomes and overall mortality.

Summary: The study found that using IVIM-DWI parameters ADC and D values can predict the histologic differentiation of hepatocellular carcinoma, with D value having better diagnostic value.
