On the dendrite deformation and evolution mechanism of Ni-based superalloy during directional solidification

Chao Chen et al.

Summary: In a novel casting with complex solidification path during directional solidification, investigations were conducted on dendritic growth through experiments and simulations. Different dendrite deformations were found in the side strip and the corner, caused by differential thermal shrinkage. Local strip deformation above each platform led to cumulative deviation of dendrite direction in the entire strip.

Effects of Zr on microstructural evolution and mechanical property of Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy

Junjia Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of Zr significantly improves the microstructure and mechanical properties of Cu-Ni-Sn alloys by controlling dendritic morphology and changing the form of precipitation phases. The presence of Zr inhibits the formation of discontinuous precipitation, extends the aging window, and results in the optimal combination of properties for the alloy.

Evolution behavior of γ-D03 phase in Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy and the corresponding effects on alloy property

Junjia Zhang et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the evolution behavior of the gamma-D0(3) phase in Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy, revealing the direct formation of particulate gamma-D0(3) phase and the precipitation of lamellar and needlelike phases. After the solid-solution treatment, the gamma-D0(3) phase would re-nucleate at the grain boundary and grow during aging, forming discontinuous precipitation colonies. The addition of B effectively suppressed the formation of gamma-D0(3) phase, resulting in improved hardness and reduced electrical conductivity of the alloy.

A comparative study of Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy prepared by L-DED and L-PBF: Microstructure and properties

Jibing Wang et al.

Summary: In this paper, dense Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy blanks were fabricated by laser-directed energy deposition (L-DED). The L-DED sample showed smaller grain size, finer microstructure, and better mechanical properties compared to the laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF) sample, but with a lower cooling rate.

Influence of as-cast structure refinement on heritability of mechanical properties for Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloys

Shunran Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports a novel heredity phenomenon where the mechanical properties of thermo-mechanically processed Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloys were improved by refining the as-cast structure. The underlying mechanism of hereditary strengthening was carefully analyzed, showing that it is mainly attributed to the additional dislocation proliferation induced by structure refinement and accelerated precipitation effect on strengthening phases. The strengthening mode changes from grain refinement in as-cast state to dislocation and precipitation strengthening in aged alloys.

Effect of Different Mo Addition on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Cu-15Ni-8Sn Alloy

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, Mo was added to Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloy to improve its service performance. The addition of Mo improved the as-cast structure, reduced segregation and Cu-Mo phase precipitates on the surface. Mo partially dissolved into the matrix during solution treatment and effectively inhibited the discontinuous precipitation of Sn. The alloy's hardness remained high even after long-time aging.

Enhanced softening resistance and mechanical properties of Cu-Ni-Sn alloy with Al, Zn and Si micro-alloying

Chengjun Guo et al.

Summary: Microalloying with Al, Zn, and Si was investigated for its effects on the microstructure, physical properties, and softening resistance of Cu-Ni-Sn alloy. The results showed that the addition of Al, Zn, and Si effectively suppressed the segregation of the alloy, resulting in increased hardness and softening temperature. The presence of Al and Zn solute atoms and the formation of Ni31Si12 phase inhibited discontinuous precipitation formation and dislocation movement, leading to excellent mechanical properties and softening resistance in the alloy.

Recrystallization behavior and mechanical properties of a Cu-15Ni-8Sn(P) alloy during prior deformation and aging treatment

Yufan Shi et al.

Summary: The study revealed that cold deformation affects the aging process of Cu-15Ni-8Sn and Cu-15Ni-8Sn-0.2P alloys, with the joint effects of DP and recrystallization leading to mechanical property deterioration, where DP has a more significant impact. The addition of P in the alloy inhibits recrystallization reactions and enhances hardness and yield strength.

Selective laser melting of Cu-Ni-Sn: A comprehensive study on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and deformation behavior

Chao Zhao et al.

Summary: A comprehensive understanding of the deformation behavior and strengthening mechanism of the selective laser melted (SLM) alloy is crucial for maximizing the potential of the SLM process. This study focuses on the impact of SLM on the microstructure, deformation behavior, and mechanical properties of Cu-Ni-Sn alloy compared to their cast counterparts (CC). The SLM microstructure, characterized by increased dislocation density, offers a superior combination of tensile strength and ductility, mainly attributed to grain refinement, dispersed precipitation, and increased dislocation density.

Directional Solidification of AlSi7Fe1 Alloy Under Forced Flow Conditions: Effect of Intermetallic Phase Precipitation and Dendrite Coarsening

Haijie Zhang et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that a forced flow, induced by a rotating magnetic field, can influence the solidification microstructure of metal alloys by modifying the coarsening/ripening law. The presence of intermetallic precipitates can block the flow effect in some technical alloys. Model simulations suggest that this forced flow reduces mushy zone thickness, induces central segregation channels, and affects the distribution of intermetallic precipitates, influencing dendrite coarsening and interdendritic flow.
