Implications of Perineural Invasion on Disease Recurrence and Survival After Pancreatectomy for Pancreatic Head Ductal Adenocarcinoma

Stefano Crippa et al.

Summary: PNI is a major determinant of tumor recurrence and patients' survival in resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The role of PNI is particularly relevant in early stages, such as PDAC <= 20 mm and R0/N0 tumors.

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio as prognostic factors for unresectable advanced or recurrent gastric cancer

Tsutomu Namikawa et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the prognostic value of C-reactive protein-to-albumin (CAR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratios (NLR) in conjunction with host-related factors in patients with unresectable advanced or recurrent gastric cancer. High CAR and NLR levels were associated with poor survival outcomes in these patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

A novel clinical prognostic index for patients with advanced gastric cancer: possible contribution to the continuum of care

K. Shimozaki et al.

Summary: The modified JCOG prognostic index demonstrated excellent stratification of overall survival in real-world patients with advanced gastric cancer, which could help determine the need for treatment changes throughout the continuum of chemotherapy.

Inflammatory Markers Predict Survival in Patients With Advanced Gastric and Colorectal Cancers Receiving Anti-PD-1 Therapy

Xiaona Fan et al.

Summary: The study found that the inflammatory markers Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have clinical utility for predicting survival or risk of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) in patients with advanced gastric cancer and colorectal cancer.

Relationship Between Prognostic Nutritional Index and Mortality in Overweight or Obese Patients with Cancer: A Multicenter Observational Study

Xi Zhang et al.

Summary: This large-scale retrospective cohort study demonstrated a negative correlation between prognostic nutritional index (PNI) levels and all-cause mortality in overweight and obese patients with cancer. An increase in PNI levels was significantly associated with reduced mortality risk in patients at risk of malnutrition and elderly patients.
