Association between thiol-disulfide hemostasis and transient tachypnea of the newborn in late-preterm and term infants

Mehmet Semih Demirtas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the oxidative stress status and thiol disulfide hemostasis in late preterm and term newborns with transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN). The findings showed that continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment can reduce the oxidative stress burden in neonates with TTN, especially in late preterm newborns.

Evaluation of Oxidative Stress Levels and Dynamic Thiol-disulfide Balance in Patients with Retinopathy of Prematurity

Huseyin Erdal et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the thiol-disulfide homeostasis and oxidative stress levels in patients with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The study found that ROP patients had lower levels of total antioxidant status (TAS) and higher levels of total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) compared to patients without ROP. The study also revealed that ROP patients are highly sensitive to oxidative stress.

Evaluation of dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis and ischemia-modified albumin levels in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Huseyin Erdal et al.

Summary: This study is the first to evaluate the dynamic thiol-disulfide homeostasis and ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels in CLL patients. The results show that CLL patients have lower total antioxidant status levels, higher total oxidant status and oxidative stress index levels compared to controls. The study highlights the importance of measuring native and total thiol and IMA levels in CLL patients.

Oxidative Stress Levels and Dynamic Thiol-Disulfide Balance in Preterm Newborns with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

Mehmet Semih Demirtas et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the oxidative stress (OS) levels and dynamic thiol-disulfide balance in preterm newborns with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). By comparing clinical and laboratory findings between the BPD and control groups, it was found that infants with BPD had lower gestational age, birth weight, and 5-min Apgar score, as well as higher rates of respiratory distress syndrome, surfactant therapy, ventilation therapy duration, and hospital stay. The plasma levels of total oxidant status (TOS) and OS index (OSI) were significantly higher in the BPD group, while total antioxidant status (TAS) and native thiol (NT) levels were significantly lower. The study concludes that OS is increased in newborns with BPD and provides a different perspective on BPD by determining the dynamic thiol-disulfide balance.

Thiol/disulfide homeostasis as a new oxidative stress marker in patients with neonatal transient tachypnea

Huseyin Erdal et al.

Summary: This study investigated the thiol-disulfide homeostasis in patients with transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN). It found that TTN patients had lower levels of thiols and increased oxidative stress compared to the control group.

Evaluation of thiol disulfide balance in adolescents with vitamin B12 deficiency

Mehmet Semih Demirtas et al.

Summary: This study explores the association between vitamin B12 deficiency and dynamic thiol/disulfide homeostasis in adolescent patients. The study consists of 45 adolescent patients with vitamin B12 deficiency and a control group of 45 healthy adolescents. The results show that vitamin B12 level is significantly lower in the deficiency group, and oxidative stress may play a vital role in vitamin B12 deficiency in adolescence.
