Life expectancy after 2015 of adults with HIV on long-term antiretroviral therapy in Europe and North America: a collaborative analysis of cohort studies

Adam Trickey et al.

Summary: Life expectancy has increased for people with HIV on antiretroviral therapy (ART). Latest prognosis data show that the survival rate of adults with HIV who have been on ART for at least 1 year in Europe and North America is similar to that of the general population, regardless of the starting time of ART. However, individuals with low CD4 counts at the start of treatment have lower life expectancy, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and sustained treatment of HIV.

Impact of long-term antiretroviral therapy on gut and oral microbiotas in HIV-1-infected patients

Mayumi Imahashi et al.

Summary: This study found that long-term ART has a significant impact on the microbial composition and diversity in the gut of HIV-1-infected patients, especially NRTI-based ART, while the diversity changes in the salivary microbiome are less pronounced. The results suggest that NRTI-sparing ART may help alleviate the effects of long-term ART on gut microbiota.

Dysbiotic Fecal Microbiome in HIV-1 Infected Individuals in Ghana

Prince Kofi Parbie et al.

Summary: HIV-1 infected individuals under antiretroviral therapy can control viremia but are at risk of developing non-AIDS diseases, with gut microbiome dysbiosis playing a role in disease progression. A study in Ghana found differences in fecal microbiome composition between HIV-1 infected adults and healthy individuals, with reduced alpha diversity and changes in bacterial taxa observed in the infected group. This study provided insights into dysbiotic fecal microbiome characteristics in HIV-1 infected adults in Ghana, representing West African populations.

Unique Gut Microbiome in HIV Patients on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Suggests Association with Chronic Inflammation

Aya Ishizaka et al.

Summary: The study found that HIV-infected patients have changes in gut microbiome composition, including dysbiosis related to chronic inflammation, with alterations in abundance of certain taxa and associations with inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, HIV-associated dysbiosis shifts the immunological balance towards inflammatory responses.

Clostridium butyricum MIYAIRI 588 Modifies Bacterial Composition under Antibiotic-Induced Dysbiosis for the Activation of Interactions via Lipid Metabolism between the Gut Microbiome and the Host

Tadashi Ariyoshi et al.

Summary: CBM 588 modifies the gut microbiome and increases the content of butyric acid and oleic acid, leading to GPR activation and downstream immune cell differentiation in the host colon tissue. The findings reveal the complex interplay between the gut microbiome and host metabolism through lipid metabolism, shedding light on potential mechanisms for inflammation prevention and host metabolism improvement by CBM 588.
