Efficient Production of Naringin Acetate with Different Acyl Donors via Enzymatic Transesterification by Lipases

Yesol Baek et al.

Summary: Naringin, a natural antioxidant found in citrus flavonoids, has limited bioavailability due to its low stability and solubility. However, recent reports have shown that acylation can improve the physical and chemical properties of naringin esters. This study aimed to enhance the conversion of naringin acetate using enzymatic reactions. By optimizing various factors, such as enzyme type, concentration, acyl donor, reaction temperature, and solvent, a high conversion rate of naringin acetate was achieved within a short time, demonstrating the commercial potential of this process.

Novel and highly efficient lipase-catalyzed esterification of formic acid with hexanol for waste gas reutilization

Jeongbae Seo et al.

Summary: The study focuses on valorizing formic acid and hexanol into hexyl formate through lipase-catalyzed esterification, achieving a maximum conversion rate of 98.28%. The optimized conditions include the use of Novozym 435 at a concentration of 15 g/L, a molar ratio of formic acid to hexanol of 1:5, and a reaction temperature of 40 degrees C. This approach can be a promising strategy for efficiently converting waste C1 gases into short-chain flavored esters.

Can ketone bodies inactivate coronavirus spike protein? The potential of biocidal agents against SARS-CoV-2

Alaa Shaheen

Summary: Biocidal agents such as formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde can inactivate various coronaviruses, including SARS-CoV-2. The mechanism of inactivation involves inducing conformational changes in the spike glycoprotein through Schiff base reactions, preventing the virus from binding to cellular receptors. Additionally, a potential prophylactic and therapeutic measure using acetoacetate against SARS-CoV-2 is proposed, pending experimental confirmation, along with further research to find a broad-spectrum antivirus against multiple members of the orthocoronavirinae subfamily.
