Integration of natural clay into cellulose membrane for efficient CO2/N2 separation

Zhongguo Wang et al.

Summary: Designing gas separation membranes from natural resources such as clay and cellulose is important. In this study, natural clay attapulgite nanorods were integrated into cellulose nanofibers to create organic/inorganic composite membranes. These membranes exhibited effective CO2/N-2 separation due to the sealing of non-selective interfacial voids/defects by flexible cellulose nanofibers.

Robust and high selective chitosan asymmetric Membranes: Relation between microporous structure and pervaporative efficiency in ethanol dehydration

Pawel Grzybek et al.

Summary: Asymmetric chitosan membranes were used to improve the process of ethanol dehydration, and a strong correlation was found between membrane structure, pore size and separation effectiveness. An interesting phenomenon of membrane structure changing during the pervaporation process was observed, leading to a nonlinear time dependence of transport and separation parameters. The best performance for PV separation was achieved by a membrane prepared from a casting solution containing 0.1 ml of absolute ethanol.
