Experimental and numerical mass transfer study of carbon dioxide absorption using Al2O3/water nanofluid in wetted wall column

Hamed Rashidi et al.

Summary: This study investigated CO2 absorption by Al2O3/water nanofluid in a laboratory-scale wetted wall column, examining the effects of nanoparticle volume fraction, fluid flow rate, and temperature on mass transfer coefficient. Experimental results showed that the mass transfer coefficient of nanofluid is higher than that of base fluid water, and increases with nanoparticle concentration, temperature, and flow rate. Simulation using computational fluid dynamics showed good agreement with experimental results, demonstrating an increase in dimensionless CO2 concentration in the film layer with higher nanoparticle volume fraction and temperature, while a decrease was observed with increased fluid flow rate.

Hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents as green absorbents for hydrophilic VOC elimination

Chun-Chi Chen et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are efficient in eliminating hydrophilic VOCs due to their high absorption capacity and favorable gas-to-liquid mass transfer. Among the DESs explored, the one containing thymol and decanoic acid in a 1:1 molar ratio exhibits the highest acetone absorption capacity, showing the key role of hydrogen bonding interaction in achieving superior solubility of acetone in DESs. The absorbed acetone can be easily removed from the DESs, making the process economically and ecologically beneficial for hydrophilic VOC elimination.

Effects of surface modification and surfactants on stability and thermophysical properties of TiO2/water nanofluids

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study showed that Tetramethylammonium hydroxide and 3-aminpropyltriethoxysilane treatment can enhance the dispersion stability of TiO2/water nanofluids. Increasing nanoparticle concentration leads to higher viscosity of nanofluids, while temperature rise results in decreased viscosity. The thermal conductivity and effective thermal conductivity of nanofluids increase with temperature and nanoparticle concentration.
