AQDS Activates Extracellular Synergistic Biodetoxification of Copper and Selenite via Altering the Coordination Environment of Outer-Membrane Proteins

Xue-Meng Wang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the synergistic detoxification of Cu2+ and SeO32- by Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 in a complex environmental matrix. The addition of AQDS triggers a transition from intracellular to extracellular reaction, accelerating Cu2+ and SeO32- biodetoxification. The slightly raised redox potential of AQDS-coordinated outer-membrane proteins contributes to the faster electron efflux from the cells.

Effect of sterilization on cadmium immobilization and bacterial community in alkaline soil remediated by mercapto-palygorskite

Yale Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the immobilization effects of a novel amendment MPAL in Cd-contaminated alkaline soils through soil sterilization experiments. Results showed that the immobilization of MPAL on Cd in sterilized soil was significantly better than in natural soil, possibly due to changes in the microbial community and function. The application of MPAL in alkaline soil was stable and effective, unaffected by soil sterilization and reduction in soil microorganisms.

Adaptation mechanism of aerobic denitrifier Enterobacter cloacae strain HNR to short-term ZnO nanoparticle stresses

Teng-Fei Ma et al.

Summary: The research found that the resistant strain was able to maintain higher reductase activity and lower reactive oxygen species increment under short-term zinc oxide nanoparticle stress. Additionally, transcriptomic analysis revealed that the enhancement of nitrogen and purine metabolism in the resistant strain helped lower the stress response to the nanoparticles.
