Oncotherapeutic Strategies in Early Onset Colorectal Cancer

The incidence of EOCRC has been rising by 2% annually since 1994. Patients with EOCRC have distinct social, spiritual, fertility, and financial needs that need to be addressed. This review discusses the risk factors and management strategies for EOCRC.

Colonoscopic Screening and Risk of All-Cause and Colorectal Cancer Mortality in Young and Older Individuals

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of colonoscopy screening on all-cause and CRC mortality in individuals under 45 years old and those 45 years and older. The results showed that colonoscopy screening was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality in both age groups, and significantly reduced CRC mortality in individuals aged 45 years and older. Therefore, more rigorous confirmatory studies are needed to validate the benefits of early screening in reducing mortality.

Early-onset colorectal cancer: A review of current knowledge

This early-onset CRC presents unique features and is predicted to double by 2030, making it a serious public health issue. Modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors have been identified, and the genetic risk evaluation is recommended for accurate assessment. Screening strategies and considerations for young cancer patients are discussed.

Early-onset colorectal cancer: Current insights and future directions

Summary: In the past two decades, there has been a significant increase in the incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) worldwide, but the reasons behind this trend remain unclear. EOCRC appears to have distinct clinical and molecular characteristics when compared to late-onset colorectal cancer, with younger patients often presenting with tumors located in the distal or rectal area, advanced stages of the disease, and unfavorable histological features. Identifying risk factors for EOCRC is crucial in addressing the growing burden of this disease.

Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
