Modeling and optimization of osmo-sonicated dehydration of garlic slices in a novel infrared dryer using artificial neural network and response surface methodology

Summary: This study explored the drying characteristics of Panax notoginseng taproot (PNT) in the segmented drying process of microwave vacuum combined with hot air. A snake optimizer-support vector regression (SO-SVR) model was proposed to predict the moisture content during the drying process. The results showed that the drying process consisted of decreasing rate and constant rate stages, and the drying rate could be increased by decreasing chamber pressure, increasing upper-temperature limit, and power density in the stage of microwave vacuum. The SO-SVR model demonstrated the highest prediction accuracy.

Comparative assessment of energy analysis, drying kinetics, and biochemical composition of tomato waste under different drying conditions

This study investigated the effects of different drying methods on waste tomato samples, including drying kinetics, energy aspects, rehydration, shrinkage, and chromatic parameters. The results showed that microwave drying was the most efficient system, while greenhouse drying had the best rehydration capacity.

Summary: Crude extracts from cashew apple pomace dried at different temperatures were analyzed to determine their antioxidant capacity. A coupled model was developed to predict the antioxidant capacity using inputs of total alkaloids, total flavanoids, total saponin, and total phenolics. The results showed that increasing drying temperature reduced the content of bioactive compounds and antioxidant capacity, except for total saponin which increased. The coupled model improved the prediction accuracy of antioxidant capacity.
