FSEI-GPU: GPU accelerated simulations of the fluid-structure-electrophysiology interaction in the left heart

Francesco Viola et al.

Summary: This paper describes the use of CUDA to accelerate the fluid-structure-electrophysiology interaction (FSEI) on GPU architectures for fast and accurate hemodynamics simulations. The resulting GPU accelerated code can solve a single heartbeat within a short period of time in local computing facilities, providing possibilities for computational fluid dynamics aided diagnostic.

On the submerged low-Cauchy-number canopy dynamics under unidirectional flows

Liu Hong et al.

Summary: The unsteady dynamics and induced turbulence of a fully-submerged canopy with low flexibility were experimentally explored. The results showed a downstream shift in the onset of the internal boundary layer and a lower canopy top friction velocity compared to a rigid canopy. There was a transition from vortex-induced blade motions to dominance by natural blade frequency near the canopy edge, resulting in peak displacement intensity of the blades. The flow-induced and blade natural frequencies dominated the flow-structure interaction near the leading edge region, leading to increased small-scale turbulence.

Perforation effects on the wake dynamics of normal flat plates

Abhinav Singh et al.

Summary: The effect of perforation on the wake of a thin flat plate, including changes in drag coefficient and Strouhal number, as well as the behavior of the vortical structures, has been studied using direct numerical simulation.

Direct numerical simulation of flapping flags in grid-induced turbulence

Stefano Olivieri et al.

Summary: A fully resolved direct numerical simulation approach was used to study the flapping motion of a flexible flag under turbulent flow at moderate Reynolds number. The study found that turbulence intensity has a significant impact on the characteristics of flag oscillation, which can be qualitatively detected through spectral analysis.
