The potential effects of chlorophyll-deficient mutation and tree_age on the accumulation of amino acid components in tea plants

Dingding Liu et al.

Summary: Research has found that albino tea, with its high amino acid content, has attracted attention in the tea market due to its attractive appearance and fresh taste. The study showed that the main amino acid content gradually decreased as the tea plant aged. Principal component analysis revealed that the amino acid content of individual plants became stable with plant growth. Correlation analysis indicated a significant negative correlation between several main amino acids and the contents of chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoids. The results of the study suggest that the accumulation of amino acids in tea plants is closely related to leaf color variation and tree age during the growing period.

A point mutation in the gene encoding magnesium chelatase I subunit influences strawberry leaf color and metabolism

Yang-Yang Ma et al.

Summary: Magnesium chelatase (MgCh) is responsible for the insertion of magnesium into protoporphyrin IX, an essential step in chlorophyll (Chl) biogenesis. In this study, a CHLI mutant, p240, was identified in Fragaria pentaphylla, exhibiting yellow-green leaves and reduced Chl levels. The mutation in the 186th amino acid of the CHLI subunit affected enzyme function, leading to impaired ATPase and MgCh activity, as well as altered leaf coloration and metabolism. Manipulation of CHLI may enhance strawberry plant fitness and photosynthetic efficiency under low light conditions.

Quantitative trait loci mapping for free amino acid content using an albino population and SNP markers provides insight into the genetic improvement of tea plants

Rong Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-density genetic map was constructed to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) related to free amino acid content in tea. Several important amino acid metabolic pathways were also identified. These findings provide a promising avenue for the genetic improvement of tea plants.

Photorespiration Regulates Carbon-Nitrogen Metabolism by Magnesium Chelatase D Subunit in Rice

Yinpei Liang et al.

Summary: The study showed that a yellow-green leaf mutant ygl53 in rice had increased net assimilation rate, higher photorespiration rate, and lower nitrogen uptake efficiency, but maintained normal development and yield. The mutant demonstrated higher activities of GOGAT and GS to maintain carbon and nitrogen metabolism homeostasis, with energy and substances derived from carbon metabolism supplementing nitrogen metabolism through photorespiration.

Integrated Metabolome and Transcriptome Analyses Reveal Etiolation-Induced Metabolic Changes Leading to High Amino Acid Contents in a Light-Sensitive Japanese Albino Tea Cultivar

Hiroto Yamashita et al.

Summary: Plant albinism results in pale leaves and higher FAA contents in albino tea leaves. Metabolic changes in etiolated leaves (EL) are influenced by etiolation itself rather than light environment. The high FAA contents in EL may result from increased nitrogen source contributed by protein degradation.
