Terpenoid and Fatty Acid Profiling along with Anti-Tyrosinase and Anti-Urease Potentials of Scorzonera pygmaea Sibth. & Sm. an Endemic Plant of Turkey

Hasan Sahin et al.

Summary: In this study, fractions of different components were obtained from the roots and above ground parts of S. pygmaea. The terpenoids and fatty acids of the plant were analyzed using GC/MS, and the results showed similarities to other Scorzonera species. The SPR-CH fraction exhibited the highest inhibition rates for tyrosinase and urease. These findings are significant for understanding the active compounds and potential applications of this plant in the pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetic industries.

Phytochemical Composition and Biological Activities of Scorzonera Species

Karolina Lendzion et al.

Summary: The genus Scorzonera consists of nearly 200 species naturally occurring in Europe, Asia, and northern parts of Africa, and has been used in folk medicine in Asia for centuries. Studies have identified various bioactive compounds in Scorzonera plants with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and hepatoprotective properties, and potential activity against bacteria and fungi. Despite mild cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines, Scorzonera species show promise for wound healing therapy and treatment of microbial infections in medical products.

Evaluation of Antidiabetic Activities of Scorzonera Species on Alloxan-Induced Diabetic Mice

Ayse Arzu Sakul et al.

Summary: The study investigated the antidiabetic activity of different Scorzonera species and the potential role of rutin as the primary component responsible for this activity. The results showed that S. sublanata extract exhibited the highest antidiabetic activity, along with notable effects from S. cana var. jacquiniana extract and rutin treatment. However, the rutin content did not directly correlate with the antidiabetic activity of the plant extracts, suggesting the presence of other compounds responsible for the observed effects. Further research is needed to identify these compounds.
