Simultaneous recovery of phosphorus and alginate-like exopolysaccharides from two types of aerobic granular sludge

Xingyu Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the extraction and fractionation of alginate-like exopolysaccharides (ALE) from activated sludge-derived bacterial aerobic granular sludge (AGS) and algal-bacterial AGS were performed, and their phosphorus (P) fate during ALE recovery was examined. The results showed that algal-bacterial AGS had a higher ALE content and both types of granular sludges had high P bioavailability.

Enhanced photoautotrophic growth of Chlorella vulgaris in starch wastewater through photo-regulation strategy

Hongyan Ren et al.

Summary: Utilizing starch wastewater for microalgae biomass production is a promising approach due to the nutrients present. However, poor photosynthetic efficiency hinders biomass production. A photo-regulation strategy involving adjusting light/dark cycles and wavelengths has been shown to enhance intracellular photo electron transfer and increase biomass accumulation. This strategy has potential for improving microalgae growth and productivity.

Pigment and Fatty Acid Production under Different Light Qualities in the Diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum

Bernardo Duarte et al.

Summary: Different wavelengths of LED illumination can modulate the production of carotenoids and fatty acids in diatoms, with red light promoting the production of Hexadecatrienoic acid (HTA) and Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), while blue light favors the production of saturated TAGs. Diatoms can use spectral light control to regulate the production of value-added molecules, demonstrating potential applications in aquaculture feeding and the food or biofuel industries.
