Soil stabilization using synthetic polymer for soil slope ecological protection

Yuxia Bai et al.

Summary: Polymer treatment enhances soil slope protection by improving its macro-properties and promoting vegetation growth. Laboratory tests showed that adding polyurethane greatly increased the strength and water retention capacity of the treated soil, while reducing its permeability. Field observations demonstrated that polyurethane treatment effectively protected soil slopes by enhancing erosion resistance, mechanical strength, and water retention, leading to accelerated vegetation growth and cover.

Starch-derived photoresponsive high-efficientcy hygroscopic hydrogel for all-weather atmospheric water harvesting

Hongli Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents a new atmospheric water harvesting technology that collects water from ambient air to produce clean water. The key to this technology lies in moisture absorption-desorption capabilities of materials. The researchers have developed a starch-derived photoresponsive atmospheric water-harvesting material that shows good hygroscopicity and high adsorption capacity. The material efficiently releases adsorbed water using solar energy and demonstrates reversible hygroscopicity, making it suitable for clean water production in natural environments.

Performance-related properties of low-volume roads when stabilised with a sustainable anionic polyacrylamide: particle and specimen-levels study

Romel N. Georgees et al.

Summary: This study investigates the benefits of using a sustainable water-soluble anionic polyacrylamide on pavement surface materials for low-volume roads. The results show that polyacrylamide can enhance the physical and engineering properties of the tested soils, mainly through physical bonding with soil particles rather than chemical interaction.

Mechanical and microstructural properties of recycling granite residual soil reinforced with glass fiber and liquid-modified polyvinyl alcohol polymer

Bingxiang Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, SEM and drop-weight tests were used to investigate the reinforcing effect of glass fiber and SH Polymer on granite residual soil. The results showed that the particles were tightly bonded and formed a bonding system with glass fiber. Additionally, the impact resistance reached its maximum when the glass fiber content was 3.0%.

Soil conditioners based on anionic polymer and anionic micro-sized hydrogel: A comparative study

I. G. Panova et al.

Summary: The article discusses the use of novel aqueous polymer formulations to stabilize sand and soil against wind erosion and retain water. Results show that PAA#-based crusts have higher mechanical strength compared to linear PAA, making them more resistant to mechanical loads. The PAA#-based crusts also have a higher water retention capacity and are not affected by high air speeds, making them promising for anti-erosion and water-saving formulations.

Porous geopolymer based eco-friendly multifunctional slow-release fertilizers for promoting plant growth

Haiyan Yan et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared a novel multifunctional slow-release fertilizer containing N, P, and K nutrients using eco-friendly inorganic/organic composites as carriers, which demonstrated good water retention capacity, water absorbency in salt solutions, soil pH regulation, partial degradation in soil, and promotion of maize plant growth in the soil environment. The slow-release longevity of N nutrient in the fertilizer was more than 90 days, with a cumulative release rate of 51.4%, indicating the potential of three-dimensional network eco-friendly geopolymer with high porosity in nutrient loading and persistent slow-release performance.

New polymer composites improve silty clay soil microstructure: an evaluation using NMR

Wei Huang et al.

Summary: This study developed new polymer soil improvers, ADNB, to mitigate soil erosion risk by modifying soil microstructure and enhancing ecological self-repair ability. The effects of ADNB on soil water characteristics and pore size distribution were systematically investigated using NMR, showing improved water-holding capacity. Further analysis showed that the ratio and content of ADNB have a significant impact on the soil-water characteristic curve under low suction conditions.

Analysis on the applicability of modified polyvinyl alcohol (MPA) for temporary controlling the dust from soil in construction site

Min Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the modified polyvinyl alcohol (MPA) can effectively control dust from soil by enhancing its anti-wind and anti-rain erosion performance. The results show that soil treated with MPA maintains surface integrity during wind and rain erosion, making it a promising solution for reducing air pollution on construction sites while maintaining soil quality for future use.
